2017 NFL Mock Draft by James Emrick-Wilson - 3.31

Between potential team needs and current guesses at prospect values, and team needs still not set,its hard to piece together the puzzle that is the NFL draft. Obviously this is all theoretical, and based on team needs, and what I envision the Team drafting, not what I would draft in their stead. There is no way to predict the draft any more so than the weather, and just when you think you have a good idea of what's coming, someone or some team throws a wrench in the entire thing. No one, I mean no one, that includes"Experts", NFL insiders, even other NFL front offices know what another team will do, especially in the time leading up to the draft, deceit and false smoke signals run rampant.Trying to get a firm grasp on the Draft right now is like trying to break the enigma code, you know who the players are, you know the ultimate goal, but you have no idea how they'll go about obtaining that goal. I think it's a lock that the Browns pick Garrett #1 overall, but then every teams draft board hinges on SF. Do they draft Thomas, or a piece in the Secondary, do they trade for Kirk Cousin's, or simply trade back for more picks? We don't know, and there's only one way to find out, to tune in April 27th.

Round 1

1. Browns: Myles Garrett, Defensive End, Texas A&M

Browns finished 30th in sacks last season, insert Garrett, He instantly adds athleticism and pass rush to a once stagnant defense

2. 49ers: Solomon Thomas, Defensive End, Stanford

The one benefit to having a bad roster is that you have the benefit of taking the best player available and that's Solomon Thomas. Thomas instantly helps sure up a Defensive line that is switching to a 4-3

3. Bears: Jamal Adams, Strong Safety, LSU

Jamal Adams SS: The Bears D isn't that far away from being elite, W/ Adams in house, I think they take that leap

4. Jaguars: Malik Hooker, Free Safety, Ohio State

The Jaguars get the best FS to come out since Ed Reed. In a division with Andrew Luck, Marcus Mariota, and Bill O'Brien the Jags secondary is always on there toes, well that all changes this year, with Hooker, recent addition Bouye and last year's 1st Rd pick Jalen Ramsey a former weakness has now become a strength. QBs should be very scared

5. Titans: Mike Williams, Wide Receiver, Clemson

The Titans need to give Mariota(Whose on the cusp of being Elite) weapons, they do so with Williams. Williams has a little Brandon Marshall to him, he'll need it against the Texans and Jags secondaries

6. Jets: Mitch Trubisky, Quarterback, North Carolina

The Jets luck out and get their "Franchise Quarterback". In a year where teams aren't enamored with this year's QBs the Jets have Trubisky fall to 6 and help right the Ship

7. Chargers: Corey Davis, Wide Receiver, Western Michigan

The Chargers add a play maker at wide out. The Defense took huge leaps last year, but because of Injury Phillip Rivers was left throwing to Scrubs, that all changes with Davis

8. Panthers: Leonard Fournette, Running Back, LSU

The Panthers have said publicly
that they're moving away from the zone read to better protect Cam Newton, this is even more imperative now that Newton underwent rotator cuff surgery, what better way way to ease the load than to hand off to Fournette and Stewart 25-30 times a game

9. Bengals: Jonathan Allen, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Considered an elite talent in the draft Allen falls to 9 because of concerns about his shoulders long term health, well his slide ends here and paired with Geno Atkins the Bengals D-Line is formidable

10. Bills: Marshon Lattimore, Cornerback, Ohio State

The Bills have a huge hole in the secondary with the loss of Gilmore, insert Lattimore, and with new coach Sean McDermott bringing in a new Cover 2 scheme Lattimore is a perfect fit

11. Saints: Reuben Foster, Inside Linebacker, Alabama

The Saints are desperately trying to fix their defensive woes this off season, they take a huge step forward with Foster, who is a top 5 LB the moment he steps on the field

12. Browns: Deshaun Watson, Quarterback, Clemson

The Browns have been tied to Watson for awhile, and Hue Jackson hasn't been shy of his love for Watson, well he gets his wish, and a dynamic QB in the process

13. Cardinals: O.J. Howard, Tight End, Alabama

The Cardinals just hit the lottery! Howard is a matchup nightmare and paired with Larry Fitz and David Johnson the Cardinals now have matchups across the board, good luck Defenses

14. Eagles: Gareon Conley, Cornerback, Ohio State

Conley who was over shadowed at OSU by Eli Apple and Marshon Lattimore but came out in a big way last season. The Eagles are desperate for solid corner play after ranking in the bottom third of the league in Pass defense, they achieve their goal by drafting Conley

15. Colts: Forrest Lamp, Offensive Guard, Western Kentucky

The Colts make a concerted effort to keep Luck healthy and upright this year

16. Ravens: Cam Robinson, Offensive Tackle, Alabama

Ozzie Newsome is an Alabama alum and it shows when he drafts, the Alabama -Ravens pipeline continues. Robinson slots right into the RT spot vacated by Rickey Wagner
