Dorsey Fat - Chiefs Stupid
Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey was/is reportedly very overweight when he reported to Chiefs training camp last week. Kansas City made him sit out for a while and work on his conditioning prior to being allowed to start practice.
I am not going to forgive a top-five draft pick for showing up out of shape, but I am also not going to forgive the Chiefs front office for being arrogant. They think they can make a square peg fit into a round hole by trying to get Dorsey to play five-technique in the 3-4 defense. Dorsey is a pass-rushing three-technique in the 4-3 defense, when healthy.
This organization invested a No. 5 overall pick and $33 million into Dorsey, and now they want him to play a position that doesn't fit his skill set? This is $33 million down the drain.
If this organization would have been smart enough to stick with the 4-3, then they would not have drafted Tyson Jackson at No. 3 overall. Instead, they could have drafted an elite strongside linebacker in Aaron Curry and gotten some return on their investment in Dorsey.
Or, if they actually had a brain, they wouldn't have traded for a weak-armed, one-year wonder (Matt Cassel) and could have drafted Mark Sanchez at No. 3 overall.
Glenn Dorsey needs to lose some weight; I am not going to pardon his laziness. However, I am also not going to pardon front-office stupidness.
This is what's going to happen to Kansas City this year. Their defense isn't going to stop anybody, and they don't have the running game or offensive line to keep their defense off the field. Teams are going to score on them at will and force Cassel to make plays.
As much crap as Jay Cutler got for forcing throws, you haven't seen anything yet. Cassel is going to have to make plays, and he will lead the NFL in interceptions.
The Chiefs had no problem embarrassing Glenn Dorsey in training camp. Dorsey currently has egg on his face, but it will not be long before Scott Pioli gets a reality check. I would not be shocked if this team started the season 0-8.
