2008 NFL Free Agents
Tight Ends

2008 NFL Free Agent Positions:
QB | RB | FB | WR | TE | OT | G | C | DE | DT | OLB | MLB | CB | S | KP

2008 Free Agency Page Notes: Star rating is out of five.
Age listing is as of Sept. 11, the first day of the 2008 regular season.
If I missed a signing or a free agent, please let me know. There are so many players on the market I may have missed someone.

  1. Dallas Clark, Colts. Age: 29.
    Re-signed with Colts (6 years)

One of the premier tight ends in the NFL, Dallas Clark had career numbers in 2007, catching a personal-best 58 passes, 616 yards and 11 touchdowns. Remember, he was banged up in the middle of the season. The Colts will likely franchise Clark.

  2. Ben Utecht (RFA), Colts. Age: 27.
Signed with Bengals (3 years, $9 million)

No one knows about this guy because he's not a big fantasy star, but if Dallas Clark left the Colts, I have a feeling Ben Utecht, once upon a time a first-round prospect, would put up big numbers.

  3. Alge Crumpler, Falcons. Age: 30.
Signed with Titans (2 years, $5.25 million)

Fat. Sluggish. Out of shape. Unfocused. Unable to make easy catches. Some words to describe the overrated Alge Crumpler. I've been saying the Falcons should have cut Crumpler all year. Glad they finally listened.

  4. Bo scaife, Titans. Age: 27.
    Tendered by Titans (second round)

Not a bad tight end, but Tennessee can do better.

  5. Eric Johnson, Saints. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Saints (1 year)

Eric Johnson is talented, but his problem has always been staying on the field. Since 2002, Johnson has missed 41 games. Damaged goods.

  6. L.J. Smith, Eagles. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Eagles (1 year, $4.522 million)

The Eagles may franchise the King of the Dropped Pass, which would be a huge mistake. The injury-prone L.J. Smith is nothing more than a backup tight end in this league.

  7. Jerramy Stevens, Buccaneers. Age: 28.
    Re-signed with Buccaneers

Jerramy Stevens was a huge disappointment this season to no one's surprise. He had 18 catches for 189 yards. Whoop dee doo.

  8. Jeb Putzier, Texans. Age: 29.
Signed with Seahawks (1 year, $645,000)

I don't get it - Jeb Putzier was really effective with the Broncos in 2004 and 2005. He signed with the Texans and disappeared off the radar. Maybe he'll have success somewhere else and match his 2004 numbers (36 catches, 572 yards).

  9. Michael Gaines, Bills. Age: 28.
Signed with Lions (4 years, $10 million)

Teams could be intrigued with Michael Gaines' size (6-3, 280), even though he's nothing more than a backup.

  10. Billy Miller, TE. Age: 31. - Re-signed with Saints
  11. Bryan Fletcher, Colts. Age: 29.
  12. Dwayne Blakley, Falcons. Age: 29. - Signed with Titans
  13. Ben Hartsock, Titans. Age: 28. - Signed with Falcons (4 years, $9 million)
  14. Bubba Franks, Packers. Age: 30. - Signed with Jets (1 year, $1.65 million)
  15. Ben Troupe, Titans. Age: 26. - Signed with Buccaneers (2 years)
  16. Billy Bajema (RFA), 49ers. Age: 25. - Re-signed with 49ers (1 year, $927,000)
  17. Mike Seidman, Colts. Age: 27.
  18. Nate Jackson, Broncos. Age: 29. - Re-signed with Broncos (2 years)
  19. John Owens, Lions. Age: 28. - Re-signed with Lions (1 year)
  20. Bennie Joppru (RFA), Seahawks. Age: 28.
  21. John Madsen (ERFA), Raiders. Age: 25. - Re-signed with Raiders (1 year)
  22. Sean Ryan, Jets. Age: 28. - Signed with Dolphins
  23. John Gilmore, Bears. Age: 28. - Signed with Buccaneers (3 years)
  24. Richard Angulo, Jaguars. Age: 28. - Re-signed with Jaguars (3 years)
  25. Anthony Becht, Buccaneers. Age: 31. - Signed with Rams (2 years)
  26. Christian Fauria, Panthers. Age: 36.
  27. Marcus Pollard, Seahawks. Age: 36. - Signed with Patriots
  28. Kyle Brady, Patriots. Age: 36.
  29. Jerame Tuman, Steelers. Age: 32. - Signed with Cardinals (2 years)
  30. Dominique Byrd, Rams. Age: 24.
  31. Brian Kozlowski, Redskins. Age: 37.
  32. Mark Bruener, Texans. Age: 35. - Re-signed with Texans (1 year)
  33. Aaron Walker, Rams. Age: 28.
  34. Matt Murphy, Bills. Age: 28. - Re-signed with Bills
  35. Ryan Krause, Packers. Age: 27. - Signed with Texans

  39. Nate Lawrie, Bengals. Age: 26.
  40. Teyo Johnson, Bills. Age: 26.
  41. George Cooper, Falcons. Age: 24.
  42. Keith Heinrich, Buccaneers. Age: 29.
  43. Kevin Everett, Bills. Age: 26.
