2016 Fantasy Football Rankings - Wide Receivers (Sept. 7):
Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-100

  1. Eric Decker, WR, Jets. Bye: 11.
JULY 28 UPDATE: I never downgraded Brandon Marshall or Eric Decker for the Ryan Fitzpatrick contract impasse, but I wanted to make a note here that it’s OK to draft them now because Fitzpatrick re-signed with the Jets yesterday.

Eric Decker made a big mistake going to New York, and he predictably struggled in 2014. However, things turned around for him this past season, as he caught 12 touchdowns. It’s hard to expect that to continue, as Ryan Fitzpatrick began imploding at the end of the 2015 campaign, and he’ll kill his team at some point in the future if he’s even the quarterback. If not, Decker’s outlook is even worse.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 83 catches. 1,040 yards. 10 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 164.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 247.

  2. Marvin Jones, WR, Lions. Bye: 10.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Marvin Jones led the Lions in targets against the Ravens. It’s been three preseason games now, and I’ve come away being more impressed with Jones than Golden Tate three times. I would definitely slot Jones ahead of Tate in non-PPR leagues. Jones caught three passes for 25 yards in one half of action, but he was close to coming away with a greater stat line.

AUG. 19 UPDATE: The talk of Detroit’s second preseason game has to be Marvin Jones. He made a great play last week, and he once again showcased his talent against his former team. Matthew Stafford found Jones along the sideline on the first drive, and Jones did a terrific job of tapping both feet in bounds, picking up 32 yards. Jones then made another impressive catch despite being illegally contacted. Jones caught four passes for 65 yards in a quarter-and-a-half of action, and he led all starters in targets with five. Now playing with a talented quarterback, Jones seems poised for a breakout season. The sky is the limit for him.

AUG. 13 UPDATE: Marvin Jones made just one reception in the preseason opener, but he made it count. It was a 16-yarder, and he did a great job of tapping his toes down along the sideline while falling out of bounds. Jones has enjoyed a strong training camp, and this sort of play will only allow Matthew Stafford to have more confidence in his new weapon.

AUG. 11 UPDATE: Marvin Jones has emerged as the No. 1 receiver on the Lions, per Kyle Meinke, MLive. Jones has enjoyed a strong training camp, while Golden Tate has struggled with drops. Jones is playing with a much better quarterback now, so his fantasy potential is much higher.

JULY 27 UPDATE: Marvin Jones’ fantasy stock has taken a slight hit with Anquan Boldin now on the roster. Jones is still one of the starting receivers, but some of his targets will be heading in Anquan Boldin’s direction now.

Marvin Jones signed for big money in Detroit, but he will probably be a high-priced free agent bust; he has never eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark despite having A.J. Green draw attention away from him.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 79 catches. 1,090 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 163.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 242.

  3. Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
So that’s what Larry Fitzgerald looks like with a professional quarterback. Fitzgerald has endured the Ryan Lindleys, the Max Halls and the John Skeltons for far too long, and he was able to log 109 catches for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns with a healthy Carson Palmer. However, the time is right to sell high on Fitzgerald. Forget the fact that he’ll be 33 in August; having Palmer available for all 16 games in 2016 is unlikely, though more probable now with Evan Mathis on the roster.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 97 catches. 1,140 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 162.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 256.

  4. Jarvis Landry, WR, Dolphins. Bye: 8.
Jarvis Landry is a PPR machine. Ryan Tannehill locks in on him and targets him relentlessly. Landry’s catches and yards are high as a result, but Tannehill isn’t good in the red zone, which would explain why Landry has just nine touchdowns in two years.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 112 catches. 1,210 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 157.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 269.

  5. Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Broncos. Bye: 11.
As with Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders’ production will take a hit with Mark Sanchez or a raw rookie poised to start. I’d still say that Sanders is capable of posting WR2 numbers, but I’d be happier with him as a third receiver.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 80 catches. 1,150 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 157.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 237.

  6. Allen Hurns, WR, Jaguars. Bye: 5.
Allen Hurns had a terrific 2015 campaign, catching 64 balls for 1,031 yards and 10 touchdowns. His numbers would’ve been even better had he not dealt with a sports hernia late in the year. Hurns should continue to progress, though his passing opportunities could dip a bit if Jacksonville’s defense improves, as expected. Blake Bortles may not have to throw nearly as often in 2016.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 76 catches. 1,140 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 156.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 232.

  7. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Chiefs. Bye: 5.
Jeremy Maclin helped the Chiefs break the ridiculous streak of games without a touchdown to a receiver. Maclin actually secured eight scores, a figure he could easily repeat in 2016. Unfortunately, his potential is capped by Alex Smith’s mediocrity.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 85 catches. 1,070 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 155.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 240.

  8. Golden Tate, WR, Lions. Bye: 10.
It’s odd to see a receiver hit 90 catches but fail to even reach 850 receiving yards in a single season. That’s what Golden Tate did last year, which is understandable, given that Matthew Stafford had to release the ball quickly because of offensive line issues. Tate’s numbers figure to rise in 2016; the blocking will be better, and Calvin Johnson is gone, so Stafford will force the issue to Tate.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 98 catches. 1,160 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 152.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 250.

  9. Tyler Lockett, WR, Seahawks. Bye: 5.
AUG. 19 UPDATE: Tyler Lockett led the Seahawk starters in targets with three in the second preseason game. He caught two of them for 39 yards in one half of action. Lockett’s one long reception, a 31-yarder, was very impressive, as he didn’t even raise his arms to alert the covering cornerback, Terence Newman, that the ball was about to arrive. It was a move a savvy veteran would’ve made, yet Lockett is only in his second season. He has immense potential this year, though his production will depend on whether Russell Wilson will have enough time in the pocket to get the ball to him.

AUG. 9 UPDATE: It’s “clear” the Seahawks are going to give Tyler Lockett lots of touches this year, according to Sheil Kapadia, ESPN. Lockett has the potential to be a breakout candidate this year. Try to scoop him up if possible.

JULY 15 UPDATE: There has been a major buzz about Tyler Lockett’s outlook, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. Lockett, who was a big producer in the second half of the season, appears to be ready to have a dominant 2016 campaign.

JUNE 22 UPDATE: Pete Carroll confirmed that Tyler Lockett is one of the starting receivers. There was some speculation that Jermaine Kearse would get the nod after he was re-signed this offseason, but that’s not the case. Lockett seems like a decent WR3 target.

Tyler Lockett flashed on special teams early in his rookie campaign, but he became a greater part of the offense as the season progressed. His best game saw him post a 6-104-2 line at Baltimore. Lockett has major potential going forward, and he should be able to attain WR3 status in 2016.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 72 catches. 990 yards. 8 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 151.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 223.

  10. Donte Moncrief, WR, Colts. Bye: 10.
AUG. 21 UPDATE: Donte Moncrief looked good against the Ravens, catching both of his targets for 25 yards during two drives. Moncrief’s highlight play was making a defender miss on a gain of 18. There’s speculation that Moncrief will lead the Colts in receptions this year, and he appears to be off to a good start.

JULY 20 UPDATE: Beat writer Mike Wells believes that Donte Moncrief will lead the Colts in receptions this year. That could happen, as Moncrief was close to T.Y. Hilton in targets last year. Moncrief is definitely worth drafting at his current 6.10 price tag.

Donte Moncrief was off to a hot start in 2015, catching touchdowns in his first three games. Unfortunately, Andrew Luck’s injury was a factor in him slowing down late in the season. Assuming Luck remains healthy for 2016, Moncrief could emerge as a solid WR3 with some WR2 potential.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 85 catches. 1,090 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 151.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 236.

  11. DeSean Jackson, WR, Redskins. Bye: 9.
AUG. 27 UPDATE: DeSean Jackson led the team with four catches for 56 yards in preseason dress rehearsal against the Bills. He did this on five targets, with the fifth being a deep completion in which he couldn’t get both feet inbounds. Jackson’s long gain was a 39-yarder in which he avoided some defenders and then turned on the jets. Redskins color analyst Joe Theismann noted that Jackson has been in great shape this offseason, even packing on six pounds of muscle. Jackson has been overrated for a long time, but he has suddenly become a forgotten man. He’s being drafted relatively late, so I think he has some value.

Surprise, surprise, DeSean Jackson didn’t play a full season last year. Jackson took the field in just nine games in 2015. Jackson is injury-prone, making him a big risk. He’ll be overdrafted in your league, as usual, so don’t count on obtaining him.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 62 catches. 990 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 150.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 212.

  12. Julian Edelman, WR, Patriots. Bye: 9.
AUG. 27 UPDATE: Julian Edelman struggled against the Panthers. He saw three targets, catching just one pass for six yards. He screwed up on a play, nearly causing an interception, and he didn’t appear to be particularly effective. I was left wondering if he’s worrying too much about staying healthy. Edelman is bound to get injured at some point, so I’d stay away from him.

AUG. 11 UPDATE: Julian Edelman returned to practice. The Patriots can breathe a sigh of relief. A temporary one, that is. Edelman might be healthy now, but there’s no telling how long he’ll last on his twice-surgically repaired ankle.

AUG. 10 UPDATE: Julian Edelman sustained a foot injury in practice Tuesday, but initial exams deem it not to be serious. Edelman appears to have escaped another injury, but this is a reminder of how fragile he is. The foot he had issue with today is the same one he’s had two surgeries on in the past 10 months. He’s extremely difficult to trust in fantasy, especially at his ridiculously high ADP of 4.05.

AUG. 8 UPDATE: Julian Edelman has been activated off the active/PUP list. Edelman is healthy for now, but he’s too injury-prone to be relied upon. He’ll produce when healthy, but the Patriots will be happy to get 10-plus games out of him.

JULY 31 UPDATE: Julian Edelman’s work in training camp indicates that he’s close to returning. That’s great and all, but won’t prevent another injury down the road to a player who tends to get hurt a lot.

Julian Edelman is a PPR monster when he’s on the field, but durability is becoming a big concern. Edelman missed seven games in 2015 after being out twice the year before. In fact, he has just one 16-game campaign under his belt. Now, he’s coming off two foot surgeries. He’ll be a solid option when available, but don’t count on that being an every-week thing.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 95 catches. 1,030 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 149.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 244.

  13. Josh Gordon, WR, Browns. Bye: 13.
AUG. 27 UPDATE: Josh Gordon saw action for the first time this preseason. He caught two balls for 87 yards and a touchdown. Gordon made a great adjustment on his 43-yard score and earlier beat Brent Grimes with a double move on a 44-yard grab. There were rumors that Gordon was out of shape, but he looked fine in this contest. He could have a big year once he returns from his suspension.

AUG. 9 UPDATE: Josh Gordon is out of shape. Sigh. You’d think Gordon would work out during his time off, but that apparently is not the case. The good news is that Gordon has time to shed his weight because he’s on a four-game suspension. The bad news is that it’s difficult to believe that Gordon will put forth maximum effort.

JULY 27 UPDATE: Here we go again. Josh Gordon’s momentum has taken a hit because he has a quadriceps injury that will cause him to miss a couple of weeks. While this won’t hinder his Week 5 return, it will put him behind in the curve in terms of learning Hue Jackson’s playbook. Also, soft-tissue injuries tend to linger, so Gordon might deal with this for a while.

JULY 25 UPDATE: Josh Gordon will be reinstated in the NFL after he serves a four-game suspension. Gordon should consider himself lucky, and hopefully he stays out of trouble going forward. Gordon is one of the more talented receivers in the NFL and could post WR1-type numbers beginning in Week 5. Since he’ll miss the first four games, however, he should be drafted as a low-end WR2, high WR3.

JULY 21 UPDATE: Josh Gordon met with Roger Goodell this week to discuss his possible return to the NFL. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer wrote that this wouldn’t have happened if Gordon didn’t have a legitimate chance to be reinstated. We’ll find out Gordon’s fate on Aug. 1, but it sounds promising for now.

JULY 20 UPDATE: The Browns could welcome back Josh Gordon if he’s reinstated in early August. We’ll see if Gordon can stay out of trouble for once. He’ll have a better chance if he stops hanging out with alcoholic losers. Gordon would almost instantly emerge as a WR2, albeit with some risk, if he’s welcomed back.

Josh Gordon had a chance to reenter the league after the 2015 suspension. Instead, he has decided to hang out with one of the world’s biggest losers, Johnny Manziel. It’s a shame that Gordon’s great talent is going to waste. It’s unclear if he’ll even play in 2016.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 69 catches. 970 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 149.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 218.

  14. Michael Floyd, WR, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
Michael Floyd didn’t really do much until Week 4 because of a hand injury. He exploded after that, and I’d like him more if Carson Palmer weren’t so old and at risk for injury. Floyd will be a solid WR3 as long as everything is OK, but don’t expect Palmer to play all 16 games in 2016, even with Evan Mathis on the roster.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 63 catches. 990 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 145.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 208.

  15. Jordan Matthews, WR, Eagles. Bye: 4.
SEPT. 3 UPDATE: Jordan Matthews obviously won’t be as productive with rookie Carson Wentz throwing the ball to him. His stock definitely takes a substantial hit. I like Wentz more than the noodle-armed Chase Daniel, but the rookie may struggle and also spend more time running than Bradford would have.

Jordan Matthews had a terrific rookie season, but disappointed in his sophomore campaign until three huge performances to close out the season. Unfortunately for Matthews owners, it was probably too late. Chip Kelly is gone, which is a plus, so Matthews could break the 1,000-yard barrier in 2016.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 75 catches. 1,060 yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 142.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 217.

  16. Tajae Sharpe, WR, Titans. Bye: 13.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Another preseason game, another dominant performance by Tajae Sharpe. Though Sharpe caught just one pass for 60 yards at Oakland, he could’ve had a much greater stat line had Marcus Mariota connected with him on a throw in which Sharpe torched David Amerson. It would’ve gone for a long touchdown. It’s evident that Mariota loves targeting Sharpe, who saw four targets. Sharpe made one mistake when he didn’t come back to the ball, which allowed a Raider defender to break up the pass, but he was great otherwise. I’ve been recommending Sharpe as a sleeper for several weeks now, and I’ll be targeting him in every single league I’m in.

AUG. 21 UPDATE: I listed Tajae Sharpe in my Fantasy Football Sleepers list in the wake of the Dorial Green-Beckham trade, but I didn’t even expect him to perform this well. Sharpe had an amazing preseason Week 2 performance. He led all Tennessee starters in targets with six, and he managed to snatch all six balls for 68 yards in a quarter-and-a-half of action. Sharpe made two terrific leaping grabs, gaining 20 and 16 on the receptions. The 20-yarder helped Marcus Mariota convert a third-and-14. Sharpe needs to be on your fantasy roster; take him in the final couple of rounds, and you won’t be disappointed. I know he’s just a fifth-round rookie, but he’s Mariota’s No. 1 receiver, and he runs routes like a seasoned veteran. He’ll be a solid backup at the very least.

AUG. 17 UPDATE: Tajae Sharpe has enjoyed a solid offseason, and now he doesn’t have to worry about Dorial Green-Beckham taking targets away from him. Sharpe should be a solid real-life wideout for Marcus Mariota this year, but he’s only a late-round flier at best right now.

AUG. 14 UPDATE: Rookie receiver Tajae Sharpe led the starters in targets from Marcus Mariota in the preseason opener, catching both of them for 35 yards. Sharpe, who has been solid in OTAs and training camp, could be a decent contributor for Tennessee this year. His solid route-running definitely gives him a chance. Unfortunately, he left the game early with a concussion.

Mike Mularkey said that rookie Tajae Sharpe has been the most consistent receiver at OTAs. Sharpe has continued to get first-team reps. He’s someone I’m going to closely monitor in the preseason. He might emerge as a solid late-round flier.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 72 catches. 990 yards. 6 total TD.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 141.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 213.

  17. Michael Crabtree, WR, Raiders. Bye: 10.
Michael Crabtree was a pleasant surprise in 2015. He caught 85 passes, nine of which were touchdowns. He didn’t reach 1,000 yards (922), but that number should rise with Derek Carr being more mature. The touchdown count could regress to the mean, however.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 86 catches. 980 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 140.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 226.

  18. Kevin White, WR, Bears. Bye: 9.
AUG. 28 UPDATE: Kevin White had a rough performance against the Chiefs. He saw four targets, but hauled in only one ball for three yards. He was guilty of a drop and ran a poor route on one instance.

JULY 30 UPDATE: Jay Cutler referred to Kevin White as “something special” this week. This isn’t the first time White was praised this offseason. He definitely has a chance to post great numbers this season.

JULY 21 UPDATE: Kevin White has been very impressive at training camp, according to ESPN reports. White has been putting on a show, apparently, and seems to be the real deal. It’ll be interesting to see what sort of in-game chemistry he’ll have with Jay Cutler in the preseason.

Kevin White missed his entire rookie campaign after undergoing shin surgery. White was a highly athletic receiver out of West Virginia who was chosen in the top 10, so he obviously has a ton of potential. Whether he’ll be able to put it all together is a completely different story. And then there’s Jay Cutler, who could easily regress with Adam Gase gone.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 67 catches. 920 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 139.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 206.

  19. Stefon Diggs, WR, Vikings. Bye: 6.
SEPT. 3 UPDATE: Stefon Diggs’ fantasy stock took a hit several days ago when Teddy Bridgewater went down with an injury. He should be back to where he was now with Sam Bradford as his starting quarterback. Bradford will get hurt at some point, but Diggs can post WR3-type numbers in the meantime.

AUG. 30 UPDATE: Stefon Diggs’ stock takes a major downward spiral in the wake of Teddy Bridgewater’s injury. However, I still think he’s draftable. Diggs is a No. 1 receiver in real life, and Shaun Hill is a capable backup. If anything, Diggs could provide more value in the late rounds.

AUG. 28 UPDATE: Stefon Diggs was Teddy Bridgewater’s primary receiver in the dress rehearsal, which was hardly a surprise. Diggs tied for a team-high five targets, hauling in all of them for 71 yards. This was just in one half of action. With Bridgewater’s offensive line improved, he’ll have more of an opportunity to connect with Diggs.

AUG. 13 UPDATE: Stefon Diggs had a bit of a disappointing preseason debut, catching only one pass for eight yards. He was on the field for only two drives, so I wouldn’t take much away from this. However, Diggs did appear to fumble – the Vikings have been concerned about this – but he was ruled down.

AUG. 8 UPDATE: Stefon Diggs has been the most impressive offensive player in Vikings training camp, per Matt Vensel, Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Diggs caught 52 passes as a rookie, and he could be ready to take the next step. Unfortunately, his fantasy potential is hamstrung by being in a run-first offense.

Despite being just a fifth-round rookie, Stefon Diggs caught 52 passes for 720 yards and four touchdowns. The remarkable thing is that he didn’t even play until Week 4. Diggs has a bright future ahead of him, though his statistical potential is capped because the Vikings have such a conservative offense.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 72 catches. 960 yards. 7 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 138.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 210.

  20. John Brown, WR, Cardinals. Bye: 9.
SEPT. 2 UPDATE: John Brown played in the preseason finale, which is big news because he endured headaches throughout the entire month of August. Brown was not targeted on two drives, but the fact that he was on the field is great news. Unfortunately, he’s still quite the risk, given that he missed so much time with only one concussion. How long will he be absent if he sustains another?

AUG. 30 UPDATE: Bruce Arians told the media that John Brown is still experiencing headaches. It’s been a full month, yet Brown is still showing symptoms from his concussion. I’d completely stay away from Brown at this point.

AUG. 26 UPDATE: John Brown returned to practice Thursday. It’s a bit unsettling that he would miss practice because of just headaches and not have it be concussion-related, but he’s apparently healthy again. I still wouldn’t trust him.

AUG. 25 UPDATE: John Brown missed practice Tuesday with a headache. Brown missed two-plus weeks of practice with concussion symptoms and was finally cleared. Now, he’s likely to go back into concussion protocol. Given this troubling issue, as well as Carson Palmer’s preseason struggles, I’d stay as far away from Brown as possible.

AUG. 22 UPDATE: John Brown has resumed practicing. Brown missed three weeks because of a concussion. It’s nice he’s on the practice field, but the concern is whether he’ll miss an extended period of time the next time he sustains a concussion.

AUG. 17 UPDATE: John Brown is still in concussion protocol. It’s been more than two weeks now, and Bruce Arians called it a concern. It definitely is; if Brown takes this long to come back from a concussion, imagine what’ll happen if he sustains another one during the season. I think it’s time to consider staying away from Brown.

John Brown parlayed his solid rookie season into a highly productive sophomore campaign, catching 65 balls for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, Carson Palmer’s age and health are a concern going forward; otherwise, Brown would be a guaranteed WR2 option.

Projected 2016 Fantasy Stats: 59 catches. 890 total yards. 6 total TDs.
    Projected 2016 Fantasy Points: 135.
Projected 2016 PPR Fantasy Points: 194.
