2016 Fantasy Football Stock Report – Week of Aug. 1

Aug. 8

Stefon Diggs, WR, Vikings
Stefon Diggs has been the most impressive offensive player in Vikings training camp, per Matt Vensel, Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Diggs caught 52 passes as a rookie, and he could be ready to take the next step. Unfortunately, his fantasy potential is hamstrung by being in a run-first offense.

Julian Edelman, WR, Patriots
Julian Edelman has been activated off the active/PUP list. Edelman is healthy for now, but he’s too injury-prone to be relied upon. He’ll produce when healthy, but the Patriots will be happy to get 10-plus games out of him.

Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
Aaron Rodgers hinted that Jordy Nelson could be taken off the active/PUP list as early as next week. That would be great news for Nelson and his owners. Nelson should be a fine mid-WR1.

Thomas Rawls, RB, Seahawks
Thomas Rawls has been activated off the active/PUP list. This is huge, as Rawls becomes a safer lower-end RB1 option. Rawls’ ADP (3.04) makes him a bargain, though I’m sure people will take him earlier now.

Aug. 7

Corey Coleman, WR, Browns
Corey Coleman has been dominant in training camp, according to Tony Grossi, ESPN. Reports indicate that Coleman has been the real deal thus far. His ADP could rise as a result, but right now, it’s a reasonable 10.01.

Justin Forsett, RB, Ravens
Justin Forsett has been outplayed by Terrance West in training camp by all accounts. I’ve been touting Forsett as a nice value pick in the middle rounds, but it looks like I might be wrong about that.

Terrance West, RB, Ravens
Terrance West has been the most impressive running back for the Ravens this offseason, according to Mike Preston, Baltimore Sun. This is actually the second positive report on West this summer, and offensive coordinator Marc Trestman backed that up. West’s ADP is 13.09 as of this writing, so he’s worth a late-round pick.

Aug. 6

Jeff Janis, WR, Packers
Jeff Janis has had a disappointing training camp thus far, according to both Michael Cohen and Bob McGinn, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Janis had so much hype in the offseason, coming off his amazing playoff performance against the Cardinals, but he has struggled since. He still has time to turn things around, but he’s not draftable at the moment.

Dion Lewis, RB, Patriots
There are conflicting reports on Dion Lewis, hence the stock up and down for today. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe wrote that Lewis could be starting the season on the PUP list. Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, however, cites that Lewis won’t be on the PUP list. Howe’s language was stronger, so I’ll trust him right now. Still, this is a reminder that the injury-prone Lewis is not a safe pick.

DeVante Parker, WR, Dolphins
DeVante Parker has missed the past four days of practice with a hamstring injury, according to Armando Salguero, Miami Herald. This might be something Parker could struggle to overcome, given his durability questions. He’s being drafted too early this year.

Aug. 5

Matt Forte, RB, Bears
Matt Forte will miss the preseason opener with his hamstring injury. This is not a big concern now, but it will be if Forte can’t suit up for the next two games. I’m down on Forte anyway, so I’m going to recommend avoiding him in your draft.

Arian Foster, RB, Dolphins
Reports indicate that the Miami coaching staff is very happy with Arian Foster. Per the Miami Heard, the Dolphins believe he can be “the guy.” That’s great and all, but the Dolphins better realize that it’ll be a minor miracle if they even get 10 games out of him.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, Bears
Alshon Jeffery is dealing with a hamstring injury. This is more significant than other players with such problems, given that Jeffery missed a handful of games last year with hamstring problems. This is a situation definitely worth monitoring.

Sterling Shepard, WR, Giants
Sterling Shepard “keeps making plays” in training camp, according to Jordan Raanan, NJ.com. It’s a shame Shepard’s ADP is so high. I’d love him as a sleeper if he could be obtained in the 10th or 11th round, but I still think the seventh round is too early for an unproven rookie. I could change my mind based on what I see in the preseason, however.

Aug. 4

Sammie Coates, WR, Steelers
Sammie Coates has been running with the first team in training camp. Chalk this up as yet another positive report for Coatsie, who is ranked No. 1 in my Fantasy Football Sleepers list.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Cowboys
Ezekiel Elliott is expected to miss 1-2 weeks with a hamstring injury. This shouldn’t affect Elliott’s 2016 campaign unless the malady lingers. It’s something to pay attention to prior to your draft.

Josh Ferguson, RB, Colts
Josh Ferguson has “flashed consistently” in training camp according to media reports. With Frank Gore on his last legs, Ferguson is worth owning because he could take over as the starter at some point in his rookie season.

Vance McDonald, TE, 49ers
Vance McDonald is listed as the 49ers’ No. 3 tight end. San Francisco is about to discover how stupid Chip Kelly is. McDonald is the team’s best player at the position, so this development makes no sense. Philadelphians are quite used to stuff like this.

Aug. 3

Jay Ajayi, RB, Dolphins
Jay Ajayi has missed several practices with a knee injury. Ajayi has a history of knee maladies, so this is significant. He doesn’t hold much fantasy relevance, as he’s a poor fit for Adam Gase’s offense.

Lance Dunbar, RB, Cowboys
Lance Dunbar tore his patellar tendon in his knee last year. It was previously reported that Dunbar “just” sustained a torn ACL. This is much worse news. No one has ever fully recovered from a torn patellar tendon, so stay away from Dunbar all together.

Matt Forte, RB, Jets
Matt Forte and Bilal Powell will have an even split of touches, per Darryl Slater, NJ.com. This may surprise some, but Forte is declining, and Powell is making just as much money as the former Bear. Forte is being way overdrafted.

Bilal Powell, RB, Jets
Bilal Powell and Matt Forte are projected to have the same number of touches, according to Darryl Slater, NJ.com. Powell was signed to the same sort of contract as Forte, so don’t be surprised by this. Considering that Powell has a 12th-round ADP, he makes for a nice sleeper.

Rashad Jennings, RB, Giants
The Giants are not planning to use a four-running back rotation. Instead, they’ve declared Rashad Jennings to be their primary lead back. This is the best course of action, but Jennings can’t be relied upon to stay healthy.

Sammy Watkins, WR, Bills
Sammy Watkins is expected to begin practicing Monday, according to Vic Carucci, Buffalo News. There was speculation that Watkins could miss the first game or two, so this is obviously positive news. Check back for updates next week.

Aug. 2

Sammie Coates, WR, Steelers
Sammie Coates has continued to shine in training camp, according to Ray Fittipaldo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Coates was a star of OTAs, and that has carried over into August. He’s one of my favorite sleepers this year.

Stevie Johnson, WR, Chargers
Stevie Johnson tore his meniscus and will undergo surgery. It could’ve been much worse for Johnson, who stands a chance to return by mid-season. Nevertheless, he should be off all fantasy radars.

LeSean McCoy, RB, Bills
LeSean McCoy reportedly has been exceptional in training, and the Bills as a result expect a “huge year” from him. With Karlos Williams suspended, McCoy definitely seems poised to be one of the top fantasy producers of 2016.

Adrian Peterson, RB, Vikings
Adrian Peterson is dealing with a slight hamstring strain. – Ben Goessling, ESPN. Goessling called it “slight,” but any sort of injury is noteworthy for running backs over the age of 30. I’m slightly down on Peterson this year, as he’s bound to regress soon.

Dennis Pitta, TE, Ravens
Dennis Pitta will be out for a while with a sprained finger. You’ve gotta be kidding me. Pitta is literally made out of glass. It’s impossible to draft him in a 12-team league because he just can’t stay healthy.

C.J. Prosise, RB, Seahawks
C.J. Prosise is expected to miss one to two weeks with a strained hamstring. These types of soft-tissue injuries tend to linger, so no one should be surprised if Prosise is out longer. This is obviously bad news, as Prosise, being a rookie, needs all the reps he can get.

Aug. 1

Arian Foster, RB, Dolphins
Arian Foster has been taken off the active/PUP list, so he’ll begin practicing. Per the coaching staff, Foster “annihilated” the conditioning test. That won’t mean he’ll still healthy, but Foster should be effective when healthy.

DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Texans
DeAndre Hopkins has ended his holdout. That was quick! There’s no reason to avoid Hopkins in your leagues this summer.

Stevie Johnson, WR, Chargers
Stevie Johnson was carted off the practice field with a knee injury. Johnson couldn’t put any weight on his leg. It’s obviously looking grim, so stay tuned for updates.

Michael Thomas, WR, Saints
Michael Thomas has been the best player at Saints’ camp thus far, according to Rod Walker, The Advocate. Wow, that’s high praise – especially considering that the Saints have Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks. Considering the offense he plays in, Thomas could lead all rookies in receiving.
