2016 Fantasy Football: 10-Player 2QB Mock Draft

I was invited to do a two-quarterback league mock draft with some of the guys at TwoQBs.com. It was set up as a 10-team league, with 2 QBS, 2RBs, 3WRs, 1TE, and 7 bench players. The scoring was typical, with four points for touchdown passes and six points for all other touchdowns scored, plus .5 points per reception.

In two-quarterback leagues, I have seen many different kinds of drafts, with a wide range of where quarterbacks go in the draft. In the past, I've been shut out of even the second- and third-tier quarterbacks because I didn't grab one in the first or second round. And if you are in a league not made up of fantasy football writers and zealots, then you also will probably see more quarterbacks go off the board earlier than you will in this mock, but for the most part, I believe it is a good representation of a 2QB draft.

This is a 10-team draft, so we will need 20 total starting quarterbacks and around 30 total drafted. If you are used to 12-team drafts, 10 teams is a nice breather, as the players you are targeting become easier to grab, but for 2QB leagues it is an even better fit, as 20 starting quarterbacks are much easier to find than 24. Those extra four guys are extremely risky and a few teams will be stuck with them as their starters.

The fewer quarterbacks needed also makes it a little easier to wait on quarterbacks. So if you aren't using a superflex position for the second quarterback in your league, then starting a 10-team league is the way I would go. You really want to keep people involved, and if someone has to run Teddy Bridgewater out there each week as their starting quarterback, well, they may not last too long.

Round 1:

I have been in plenty of mocks and MFL10s already this season, and have seen no quarterbacks go in the first three rounds, but the first round of any 1QB draft will have quarterbacks. In this case, it was just two: Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton. I see nothing wrong with those picks, especially in the second half of the first round. Rodgers should rebound after a full season with no Jordy Nelson, and Newton will get Kelvin Benjamin back this year ... I had the fourth pick and was hoping some managers would take a quarterback, but alas, they all went with the safer elite wide receivers, which is what I would have done. So I went with Mr. Le'Veon Bell. His upside is too high to let pass, and I could tell this wasn't going to be a draft where quarterbacks were flying off the board.

2.0919@gregsauceEvans, Mike TBB WR

Round 2:

The second round also saw two quarterbacks go off the board. The fourth being my pick of Russell Wilson. Wilson is my favorite elite quarterback this year, as I believe he can outperform his ADP, which is the fourth quarterback drafted .... Andrew Luck went right before Wilson, and I would have been happy with him as well. Luck was the No. 1 quarterback going into last season, but injuries derailed any chance he had of living up to those lofty predictions, but this year, he once again will be set up to throw the ball a ton, and T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief could be one of the best duos in the league .... As you can see the quarterback market has pushed down some players you would usually have trouble getting in these positions. Rob Gronkowski and David Johnson have been steadily picked in the first round, but fall to the second here, which is why many can't go after a quarterback early, even in a 2QB league. I may be a little gun shy after getting hosed on quarterbacks when waiting in other 2QB leagues, but I'm happy with Wilson and feel that in a 10-team league, there will be plenty of players I want as the draft unfolds.

Round 3:

The third round amazingly saw no quarterbacks selected. Instead, six wide receivers and four running backs were taken. After taking a running back and quarterback, I felt I really needed to go after a wide receiver, and thankfully, Alshon Jeffery was still there. I've taken him in the second round of many drafts this year and believe he can be a Top-5 receiver if healthy .... Nobody jumps out in this round as a reach. It appears everyone got pretty good deals on their picks.

Round 4:

Round 4 saw three more quarterbacks go off the board in Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Roethlisberger, of course, has tons of upside and is worth an early pick. His brief injury stints throughout the year can be annoying though. Tom Brady on the other hand will miss the first four weeks and you will need to draft someone to fill in during that time. I do think it can work however, but with how quarterbacks are lasting in this draft, I think Brady could have lasted another round or two .... Brees is a steady player and showed that he still had the chops to be an elite fantasy quarterback in the second half of last year. Unlike Roethlisberger or Brady, we can feel pretty good about Brees playing all 16 games as well .... I went with Julian Edelman here. I'm a little worried about his foot, but not enough to stop me from taking him and his nearly seven receptions a game. The Patriots' offense is too good not to prioritize its No. 1 target.

Round 5:

This round had two quarterbacks drafted, but one was an accident with Carson Wentz. Accidents happen in mocks and real drafts, so this doesn't ruin the "sanctity" of the draft, but it is unfortunate for the Wentz drafter. The other quarterback was Carson Palmer, who I'm liking more and more this off season. He finished as the fifth-best fantasy quarterback last year despite throwing just the 13th-most passes. I don't see him throwing fewer passes this season, and there is room for him to throw more if the defense has any kind of letdown this year .... I went with C.J. Anderson because I think he'll lead the way for a good rushing offense and is one of the few three-down backs with a starting gig who you can get in the fifth round.

6.0959@gregsauceMatthews, Jordan PHI WR

Round 6:

The sixth round only saw one quarterback leave the draft pool, and his name was Philip Rivers. I like Rivers quite a bit this year, as the return of Keenan Allen from injury and the acquisition of Travis Benjamin should help Rivers' efficiency numbers quite a bit .... I was going to take Travis Kelce in this round, but was scooped, so I went with my main man Doug Baldwin. I'm higher on Baldwin than most, so I feel great about getting him and pairing him with Russell Wilson here.

7.1070@patmattesonCousins, Kirk WAS QB

Round 7:

This round had three quarterbacks flee to their new fake teams, with Eli Manning, Blake Bortles and Kirk Cousins gone. I grabbed Manning of course. If you've read any of my thoughts for this season, you'd know that I am very high on him and I figured taking my two favorite quarterbacks in a 2QB league was a good plan, as I don't feel like I reached too much for them ... I love Blake Bortles, but I'm also afraid of him regressing this season. He finished as the fourth-best fantasy quarterback last year and probably played a bit over his head as far as fantasy goes. I mainly don't want to pay for his 2015 season when drafting him this year, so this is actually a good spot to get him, as he is the 12th quarterback off the board .... Cousins has some good weapons and showed well last year. I'm still not sold on him though; as a bulk of his big games came at home against extremely weak pass defenses.

Check back soon for the completion of this mock draft.
