2012 Fantasy Football Offseason Stock - Week of Aug. 27

SEPT. 3

Rashad Jennings, RB, Jaguars
So much for Adam Schefter's report that Maurice Jones-Drew's holdout will last into the season. Rashad Jennings' ADP will plummet, but that's a good thing because it'll allow you to pick him up in the 10th round or so. Jones-Drew is bound to get hurt because players who hold out usually struggle with performance and/or durability.

Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jaguars
Maurice Jones-Drew has concluded his holdout. He needs to learn the playbook, but should be ready to start in Week 3 or so. The problem is that players who hold out have a very dubious history with both performance and durability. People will be drafting Jones-Drew early, so you'll want to avoid him.

SEPT. 1

Roy Helu, RB, Redskins
With Tim Hightower gone, Roy Helu will have command of all third-down duties, making him a solid, late-round flier in PPR formats. Don't expect him to be an every-down ball-carrier though, as Mike Shanahan doesn't have confidence in his durability.

Tim Hightower, RB, Redskins
Tim Hightower's knee didn't respond well to the brief workload he shouldered in the third preseason game, so Mike Shanahan decided to give up on him. Hightower was released Friday.

Alfred Morris, RB, Redskins
Tim Hightower of Oldtown is gone. I feel like Alfred Morris was already the favorite for early-down work because Mike Shanahan held him out of the preseason finale, but Shanahan is very difficult to predict.

AUG. 31

Kenny Britt, WR, Titans
Roger Goodell has apparently gone soft because Kenny Britt somehow received just a one-game ban. This is obviously good news for him, though his shaky knees remain a concern.

AUG. 30

Isaiah Pead, RB, Rams
Isaiah Pead is no longer the clear-cut No. 2 running back behind Steven Jackson. He's sharing that honor with seventh-round rookie Daryl Richardson. Pead has struggled with blocking and ball security, while Richardson has been the more impressive runner overall.

Daniel Thomas, RB, Dolphins
Daniel Thomas apparently is in Joe Philbin's doghouse, per Hard Knocks. Good. I never liked Thomas anyway. He's a crappy, backup running back in an offense that could easily put up the fewest points in the NFL this year.

AUG. 29

Cedric Benson, RB, Packers
Mike McCarthy told the media that James Starks' turf toe isn't healing. At this point, it really doesn't matter. Starks has lost his job to Cedric Benson, whom the coaching staff has raved about. Benson is in terrific shape and wants to prove to everyone that he can still play really well. He's a fantastic RB2 option who should be there in Round 5.

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Steelers
Emmanuel Sanders is no longer draftable in the wake of Mike Wallace's holdout coming to an end.

Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
Mike Wallace has finally reported to the Steelers. While this is good news, it's very unlikely that he'll be a big producer this year. Not only is Wallace way behind in learning Todd Haley's playbook; he's also at risk of being yet another holdout who has a bad year because of missed time.

Good thing you don't run a team, Walt. Cutting Holmes would just FORCE the Jets to run Cromartie at WR.

You still didn't hear anything about how Vincent Jackson looks fantastic in camp huh? Let's see how long you cling to your original stance on this.

Niners fan here. Crabtree should be downgraded because of his latest injury. It's not a serious injury, but it still means he's going to miss a portion of training camp (and he's never participated in a training camp in his career).

Greg Jennings has been hurt with a bruised elbow in Packers training camp, not going to say Cobb hasn't been impressive, despite a few drops he has been all over the field making plays.
I don't listen to women when it comes to telling me if P. Mannings has zip on his passes...I'm not saying I'm just saying

NO BUY on Andre Johnson. The perception is that he can't stay healthy, but that's completely TRUE.

The Pats cut Addai because he quit during his physical, not because they have confidence in their young RB's. They'll sign another veteran in Addai's place.

@anon, he said that before Welk signed his tender.

@ Vince:

Welker signed his tender and was a full participant at OTAs, so where is Walt getting the idea that he's going to hold out in training camp? There's no reason to believe that he won't be there.

Welker signed his tender, doesn't that mean he is under contract is will attend training camp? That would mean he is not a hold out. Most franchise players who hold out do not sign their tender until after training camp, which is why the struggle in the season.

Hey anon, if you'd actually been reading what Walt was writing, you'd know that you're the one who's wrong. He never once said that Welker would hold out into the season; he isn't stupid enough to think that Welk would be stupid enough to do that.

What he's saying is that by holding out during training camp, he won't be as prepared for the season, so he'll struggle. His chief example was last year with Chris Johnson. Johnson didn't hold out into the season either, but he sure as hell struggled once he got there.
