2012 Fantasy Football Offseason Stock – Week of Aug. 6
AUG. 8
Isaiah Pead, RB, Rams 
A popular late-round running back sleeper this summer is Rams’ rookie Isaiah Pead. Many believe Steven Jackson is bound to get hurt, which will open the door for Pead. However, that may not be the case because Pead has reportedly struggled in the pass-blocking drills. Jeff Fisher may be hesitant to use him much for this reason, even if Jackson goes down.
Trent Richardson, RB, Browns Trent Richardson will fly to Florida on Thursday to have Dr. James Andrews perform a scope on his knee. Richardson is expected to be ready for Week 1, but his absence in practice and on the field during the preseason will make it difficult for head coach Pat Shurmur to trust him on passing downs in the first half of the season.
AUG. 7
Terrell Owens, WR, Seahawks 
Terrell Owens is done. He should not be drafted by anyone. But he gets an up arrow because he’s actually back in the league again – for now.
Sidney Rice, WR, Seahawks Surprise, surprise. Many are now speculating that Sidney Rice won’t be ready for the regular season because of shoulder surgery. That would also explain why the Seahawks were so desperate to sign Terrell Owens.
AUG. 6
Miles Austin-Jones, WR, Cowboys Miles Austin-Jones strained his hamstring Saturday. Cowboy personnel dismissed this as a big deal, but considering Austin-Jones missed lots of time last year with this same injury, it should make you think twice about drafting him.
Vick Ballard, RB, Colts Vick Ballard is listed ahead of Delone Carter on Indianapolis’ initial depth chart. This new Colts’ front office handpicked Ballard to be their guy. Carter, who was unimpressive last year, is listed as the No. 4 running back. Remember that Carter was part of the old regime. He may not make the final roster.
Robert Meachem, WR, Chargers Reports out of Chargers’ camp indicate that Robert Meachem has not been clicking with Philip Rivers. We’ll see how this plays out in the preseason, but this should not be a shock to anyone. Meachem flopped in New Orleans and he’ll likely continue to disappoint on his new team.
Steve Smith, WR, Rams Someone has to catch passes from Sam Bradford. Brian Quick seems to be the consensus choice, but he’s playing behind fellow rookie Chris Givens. Meanwhile, numerous reports have Steve Smith emerging as the lead target. Steve Smith? It seems crazy, but I can buy into it. He had no chance of producing last season because he was coming off a nasty knee injury. He’s now two years removed from it though, so he could be back to his old self.
