2012 Fantasy Football Offseason Stock - Week of July 23

JULY 29

Alex Green, RB, Packers
Alex Green missed all of last year with a torn ACL, but he has been medically cleared for training camp. He's been a full participant in practices. Green is one injury away to the always-hurt James Starks from becoming Green Bay's starting running back. Make sure you spend a late-round pick on him.

Devery Henderson, WR, Saints
I'll give my friend and forum member Body Burner credit for talking me into this one. Devery Henderson has proven that he can produce when he's on the field for an ample amount of time. He did this during the first three weeks of the 2011 season when either Marques Colston or Lance Moore was out of the lineup, catching 12 balls for 265 yards and two touchdowns. Robert Meachem is gone, so Henderson no longer has to rotate with him. He has the potential of posting WR3/4 numbers this season, so he makes for a quality late-round pick.

Tim Hightower, RB, Redskins
The media has speculated all offseason that Tim Hightower would be Washington's featured runner. Well, Hightower is "not close to 100 percent," according to Mike Shanahan. This could change in a month and a half, but stay away from Hightower for now until the final rounds of your fantasy draft.

Mark Ingram, RB, Saints
Mark Ingram had major injury problems in 2011, but he's completely healthy and has been a full participant in training camp. He's going really late right now compared to his average draft position last summer, so he provides great value in the middle rounds.

Doug Martin, RB, Buccaneers
Forget LeGarrette Blount; it's been Doug Martin who has been installed as the primary running back in Tampa Bay's training camp. Martin won't really have to fight Blount for touches because he's such a better pass protector and receiver than his colleague. He's a solid RB2.

Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger is probably going to lose one of his starting receivers. Mike Wallace will either hold out or move to another team via a trade.

Evan Royster, RB, Redskins
So, Tim Hightower is still hurt. Roy Helu is just a change-of-pace back. Who's going to shoulder the workload if Hightower can't play? It could be Evan Royster. Crazier things have happened in Mike Shanahan's backfields. Royster has the potential to post RB2 numbers, as we saw when he rushed for 245 yards in the final two games of the season last year, so he's worth snagging in the final rounds.

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Steelers
It's looking like Mike Wallace won't play for the Steelers this season. This means that Emmanuel Sanders will receive many of Wallace's targets. He did have lines of 5-46-TD and 5-70 last season in Weeks 7 and 8, so the potential is there for the third-year wideout.

Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
Mike Wallace may now hold out into the season in the wake of Antonio Brown's extension. There's also a chance he could be dealt to a team with a worse and/or more inexperienced quarterback than Ben Roethlisberger.

JULY 26

Joseph Addai, RB, Patriots
The Patriots have cut Joseph Addai. Remove him from your cheat sheets.

Kenny Britt, WR, Titans
It's official - Kenny Britt is an idiot. He was arrested last week for the eighth time; this occasion being for a DUI. Britt will undoubtedly be suspended. Match that up with his shaky knees, and you have a guy who now should not be drafted until the double-digit rounds.

Vincent Brown, WR, Chargers
I've wanted to add Vincent Brown to my 2012 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Rankings for a while after discovering that I forgot him initially, but it kept slipping my mind. Brown is worth drafting late because he's a talented player who is part of an explosive offense. Robert Meachem could easily flop (or Malcom Floyd could get hurt), allowing Brown to start.

Michael Floyd, WR, Cardinals
It appears as though Michael Floyd may not open up as Arizona's starter across from Larry Fitzgerald in Week 1. Multiple reports cite that he's had work ethic-related issues, and that he's expected to be the fourth receiver when training camp commences.

Roy Helu, RB, Redskins
Multiple reports cite that Tim Hightower is slated to be the starting running back for the Redskins. Mike Shanahan apparently envisions Roy Helu as a change-of-pace runner because of how he wore down as his rookie campaign progressed.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, Bears
Alshon Jeffery reportedly has had trouble picking up the playbook. This should not be a surprise. He'll be a non-factor this year.

Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots
It's a great sign for Stevan Ridley that the Patriots decided to cut Joseph Addai. Bill Belichick must have confidence in his young running backs to make that move. Ridley is expected to receive at least half of New England's rushing attempts in 2012.

Shane Vereen, RB, Patriots
Joseph Addai has been released, which will open the door for more opportunities for Shane Vereen. Stevan Ridley is still expected to be the every-down back, but Vereen will definitely be utilized. He's worth picking up in the mid- to late-rounds.

Chris Wells, RB, Cardinals
Chris Wells has opened training camp on the active/PUP list because of his knee. Wells has sworn that he'll be ready for Week 1, but his track record makes it difficult to believe him.

Kendall Wright, WR, Titans
Ah, so that's why the Titans spent the 20th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on Kendall Wright. Kenny Britt was arrested for the eighth time, so he'll be facing suspension. Wright will have to be a big part of Tennessee's offense immediately.

Good thing you don't run a team, Walt. Cutting Holmes would just FORCE the Jets to run Cromartie at WR.

You still didn't hear anything about how Vincent Jackson looks fantastic in camp huh? Let's see how long you cling to your original stance on this.

Niners fan here. Crabtree should be downgraded because of his latest injury. It's not a serious injury, but it still means he's going to miss a portion of training camp (and he's never participated in a training camp in his career).

Greg Jennings has been hurt with a bruised elbow in Packers training camp, not going to say Cobb hasn't been impressive, despite a few drops he has been all over the field making plays.
I don't listen to women when it comes to telling me if P. Mannings has zip on his passes...I'm not saying I'm just saying

NO BUY on Andre Johnson. The perception is that he can't stay healthy, but that's completely TRUE.

The Pats cut Addai because he quit during his physical, not because they have confidence in their young RB's. They'll sign another veteran in Addai's place.

@anon, he said that before Welk signed his tender.

@ Vince:

Welker signed his tender and was a full participant at OTAs, so where is Walt getting the idea that he's going to hold out in training camp? There's no reason to believe that he won't be there.

Welker signed his tender, doesn't that mean he is under contract is will attend training camp? That would mean he is not a hold out. Most franchise players who hold out do not sign their tender until after training camp, which is why the struggle in the season.

Hey anon, if you'd actually been reading what Walt was writing, you'd know that you're the one who's wrong. He never once said that Welker would hold out into the season; he isn't stupid enough to think that Welk would be stupid enough to do that.

What he's saying is that by holding out during training camp, he won't be as prepared for the season, so he'll struggle. His chief example was last year with Chris Johnson. Johnson didn't hold out into the season either, but he sure as hell struggled once he got there.
