2012 Fantasy Football Offseason Stock - Week of June 4

JUNE 10

Ronnie Brown, RB, Chargers
Ronnie Brown signed with the Chargers on Friday. He had absolutely nothing left in the tank last season, but he's a fantasy factor now because he'll get touches if Ryan Mathews is out of the lineup. It's possible that Mathews could have a big 2012 campaign - a popular, but contrarian fantasy Web site is touting him ceaselessly - but he will probably suffer some sort of injury because he's so brittle. Brown is a decent, late-round handcuff.

Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys
Dez Bryant had issues with conditioning last season, almost always disappearing in the second half of games. Enjoying his first full offseason as a pro, Bryant is in terrific shape and has emerged as a leader for the Cowboys. Bryant's the favorite to have the better fantasy numbers over Miles Austin-Jones, but it'll be close.

Roy Helu, RB, Redskins
Coming off a torn ACL, Tim Hightower hasn't been cleared to practice yet. This is terrific news for Roy Helu, who may not have to share too many touches with Hightower after all.

Santonio Holmes, WR, Jets
As Emmitt Smith once said, "you can't change the stripes of a leopard." Santonio Holmes had what ESPN New York called a "mini-meltdown" in Thursday's practice, walking off the field because he didn't like how hard the coaches were pushing him. He then yelled at the receivers coach. Holmes is a bum; all of this talk about working harder this offseason was a farce. Avoid him until further notice.

DeVier Posey, WR, Texans
DeVier Posey is having a poor showing at OTAs, which was predictable, given his off-the-field issues. He's behind Lester Jean and even fourth-round pick Keshawn Martin at the very moment. Don't bother with him.

C.J. Spiller, RB, Bills
Those who believe C.J. Spiller is a legitimate threat to steal half of Fred Jackson's workload got some validation last week, as Chan Gailey raved about Spiller's improved blocking. Jackson will still be the No. 1 back, but it appears as though Spiller will definitely eat into his touches.

JUNE 6

Justin Blackmon, WR, Jaguars
Justin Blackmon is an idiot. He was arrested for an alleged DUI, reportedly blowing a .26. He could be suspended for one or two games. If Blaine Gabbert wasn't enough to keep you away from Blackmon, maybe this will.

Lestar Jean, WR, Texans
Lester Jean has been the talk of the Houston OTAs. He's been extremely impressive, both mentally and physically. He's learned every position, and the Texans apparently believe that he can unseat Kevin Walter as the No. 2 wideout. Receivers coach Larry Kirksey went on to compare Jean to Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens. It's worth noting that all three happened to go to smaller schools.

Greg Little, WR, Browns
Brandon Weeden compared Greg Little to Justin Blackmon, minus the DUI, of course. Little, Cleveland's No. 1 receiver, reported to OTAs in fantastic shape. He came into the league with good athleticism, and now it seems like he's taking football seriously. Try to get Little on your roster in the late rounds.

Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
Hakeem Nicks fractured his foot in OTAs. It was initially thought to be a 12-week injury, but Adam Schefter reported a few days ago that Nicks will be out only 4-6 weeks. There's no need to downgrade him much.

Titus Young, WR, Lions
Titus Young made headlines for punching safety Louis Delmas and getting thrown out for OTAs. Well, he's back, and he's been the star on offense, catching every ball in sight. With Calvin Johnson destined to suffer from the Madden Curse, Young will be a huge part of Detroit's aerial attack this year.

Good thing you don't run a team, Walt. Cutting Holmes would just FORCE the Jets to run Cromartie at WR.

You still didn't hear anything about how Vincent Jackson looks fantastic in camp huh? Let's see how long you cling to your original stance on this.

Niners fan here. Crabtree should be downgraded because of his latest injury. It's not a serious injury, but it still means he's going to miss a portion of training camp (and he's never participated in a training camp in his career).

Greg Jennings has been hurt with a bruised elbow in Packers training camp, not going to say Cobb hasn't been impressive, despite a few drops he has been all over the field making plays.
I don't listen to women when it comes to telling me if P. Mannings has zip on his passes...I'm not saying I'm just saying

NO BUY on Andre Johnson. The perception is that he can't stay healthy, but that's completely TRUE.

The Pats cut Addai because he quit during his physical, not because they have confidence in their young RB's. They'll sign another veteran in Addai's place.

@anon, he said that before Welk signed his tender.

@ Vince:

Welker signed his tender and was a full participant at OTAs, so where is Walt getting the idea that he's going to hold out in training camp? There's no reason to believe that he won't be there.

Welker signed his tender, doesn't that mean he is under contract is will attend training camp? That would mean he is not a hold out. Most franchise players who hold out do not sign their tender until after training camp, which is why the struggle in the season.

Hey anon, if you'd actually been reading what Walt was writing, you'd know that you're the one who's wrong. He never once said that Welker would hold out into the season; he isn't stupid enough to think that Welk would be stupid enough to do that.

What he's saying is that by holding out during training camp, he won't be as prepared for the season, so he'll struggle. His chief example was last year with Chris Johnson. Johnson didn't hold out into the season either, but he sure as hell struggled once he got there.
