JULY 4
Eddie Royal, WR, Broncos 
Josh McDaniels told ESPN that he has always seen Eddie Royal as a slot receiver. So, umm… why didn’t he play in the slot last year!? If Royal does in fact play in the slot, he could become a serviceable PPR wideout again. Unfortunately, there’s no telling what the erratic McDaniels will do, so this is a situation to monitor during the preseason.
JULY 1
Malcom Floyd, WR, Chargers Vincent Jackson has officially been suspended for three games. There’s also a good chance he’ll be dealt. In the wake of all this, Malcom Floyd will become Philip Rivers’ No. 1 receiver for at least three games – and perhaps the entire season if Jackson leaves.
Vincent Jackson, WR, Chargers 
Vincent Jackson has officially been suspended for three games. It’s also likely that he’ll be traded because he doesn’t want to play for his reduced salary. If you take Jackson and he’s traded to a quarterback-less team like Seattle, you’re screwed. Washington and Chicago would be nice landing spots for him, but you’re taking a big risk by drafting him.
Legedu Naanee, WR, Chargers In the wake of Vincent Jackson’s suspension, Legedu Naanee will start the first three games of the season. He may even be a starter the entire year if Vincent Jackson’s shipped off to Seattle or Washington.
JUNE 30
Cedric Benson, RB, Bengals Cedric Benson was arrested for allegedly assaulting an employee of a bar and then spitting on another worker in May, though the news just broke now. Benson has had prior legal problems, so he could be suspended for a couple of games.
Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals With Cedric Benson possibly headed for suspension, the player to benefit from this will be Bernard Scott. Scott, a second-year back, was already lauded during minicamps for his offseason work, prompting running backs coach Jim Anderson to indicate that he would see more action on offense. In the wake of Benson’s legal issues, the talented Scott, who rushed for 206 yards on 39 carries in his two starts last season, is a serious candidate to blow up in 2010 if he starts hot.
JUNE 29
Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers Tough break for the Steelers, as right tackle Willie Colon suffered a torn Achillies’ tendon and is out for the year. Colon is Pittsburgh’s best run-blocking lineman, so this is bad news for Rashard Mendenhall. I was already down on Mendenhall in the wake of Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension and future struggles, so this just means his fantasy prospects are even bleaker.
