NFL Draft Mailbag Notes: These are not actually e-mails. They are comments left on the comment board in my 2011 NFL Mock Draft. I've included some of these comments and my responses to them.
2011 NFL Draft E-mails - Combine Hate Mail
Walter loves to degrade any AUburn players.
--> True story. As a Penn State alumnus and fan, my hatred for Auburn runs deep since, you know, Penn State and Auburn are huge rivals. In fact, it was I who poisoned the trees! Muhahahahahahaha!!!
I think you're putting a little too much stock into 40 times!
--> The 40 was what got Trent Williams drafted over Russell Okung. If 40s aren't important, why does every single coach sit there with a stop watch and write everyone's time down? And besides, if you run a great 40, Al Davis will give you a 3-year, $31.5 million contract.
Adding you dont know anything when it comes to strategy. Russel Okung is a straight-ahead blocker he would struggle in a zone blocking scheme compared to Trent Williams.. thats something that Mike Shannahan runs if you didnt know.
--> And that's something the Seahawks run as well, if you didn't know - and yet Russell Okung had a much better rookie year than Trent Williams.
BRIAN DUNCAN? LYLE LEONG? DETRON LEWIS? COLBY WHITLOCK? BARON BATCH? THE COVERAGE BIAS AGAINST THE BIG 12 ISN'T EVEN FUNNY ANY MORE WALT
--> Damn it. My bias against the Big 12 was supposed to be my greatest joke ever. But if Tech Fan doesn't think it's funny anymore, then I guess it's not funny anymore.
I guess mayock is clueless because he said Smith and Solder had a strong showing. Mayock owns you btw
--> Mayock is the man, so I'll take his ownage of me as a compliment.
Davis is doing a very good job, for a young first year guy. The likelihood the Steelers use their 1st on Safety, with David & Mitchell locked-in as #1 & 2, is virtually zero. And, the Steelers took Leveon Bell in the 2nd Round & they aren't lookin' for a replacement anytime soon. It seems your predictions are driven more by desire to see certain guys fall to certain teams, rather than desire to actually get the predictions right. Realistically, apart from early picks at OLB or ILB, everything else would be a Depth-at-Position pick.
