*** 2017 NFL MOCK DRAFT (3 rounds) updated Oct. 22. This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Check out old versions of this 2017 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***
  1. Cleveland Browns: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
The Browns traded away the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Eagles, passing on the possibility of drafting a quarterback. This seemed like a great idea at the time, but they have to be kicking themselves now, with Carson Wentz playing so well and their other pick set to be in the 20s. Cody Kessler has been fine as a replacement for Josh McCown, but he’s not a franchise quarterback.

DeShone Kizer is currently the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick. Some team sources have said that they favor him over Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya, and it’s easy to see why, thanks to his arm strength, accuracy and mobility.

  2. Carolina Panthers: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
Everyone wants to focus on Carolina’s secondary, and it’s certainly a problem, but another issue for this defense is its lacking pass rush. Kony Ealy, who had a great Super Bowl, has done nothing this year, while Charles Johnson, who has regressed slightly, will be a 31-year-old free agent this upcoming offseason.

Myles Garrett is a monstrous pass-rusher, and he happens to be the top prospect in this class. He’s a no-brainer for Carolina at No. 2 overall.

Pick change; previously Jalen Tabor, CB

  3. Chicago Bears: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
The Jay Cutler era will officially be over when the Bears select a quarterback in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. You could argue that it’s already over with Brian Hoyer seizing the job, but Hoyer is just a solid backup. Chicago needs to find a franchise quarterback.

College football’s version of Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson had an amazing run despite being just a mere sophomore. The sky’s the limit for him, despite his slow start this season.

Pick change; previously Deshaun Watson, QB

  4. San Francisco 49ers: Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami
The 49ers missed out on a quarterback in an update two weeks ago. Now that they’re 1-5, however, they can nab a potential franchise signal-caller. That’s obviously something they need to do; Blaine Gabbert has been benched, while Colin Kaepernick has transformed into a pick-six machine because he refuses to study film and improve the mental part of his game.

Brad Kaaya has played well at times this year, though I’d consider him to be a minor reach here. Still, I can’t see the 49ers passing on a quarterback, considering their dire situation.

  5. New York Jets: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
The Jets would love to land one of the three quarterbacks, so perhaps they’d be willing to trade up. If not, they can still bolster their backfield by selecting the top offensive player in the class, Leonard Fournette.

Fournette would’ve been considered the top running back prospect since Adrian Peterson if it weren’t for Todd Gurley, and he’s someone the Jets could build their offense around.

  6. Indianapolis Colts: Jabrill Peppers, S/LB, Michigan
General manager Ryan Grigson made excuses to the media recently, citing Andrew Luck’s contract as the reason why Indianapolis’ defense is horrible. Well, here’s Grigson’s big chance to improve the stop unit. Jabrill Peppers is the top defensive talent available, by my estimation, and he would add some greatly needed speed to the Colts’ ridiculously slow linebacking corps.

  7. Miami Dolphins: Jalen Tabor, CB, Florida
The Dolphins are no longer in a position to draft a quarterback, so they’ll have to give Ryan Tannehill another year. They can instead focus on their defense, as their back seven has been an abomination this season. Trading for Byron Maxwell has proven to be a mistake, but Miami can make amends for that by selecting the top cornerback prospect in the class. That seems to be a tight race between Jalen Tabor, Adoree Jackson, Marshaun Lattimore and Marlon Humphrey.

Pick change; previously Deshaun Watson, QB

  8. San Diego Chargers: Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
The Chargers have three excellent cornerbacks on the roster, but they need help at safety, as Jahleel Addae is a penalty machine. I’m sure San Diego’s front office would love to find a viable replacement for Eric Weddle to solidify its secondary.

Charlie Campbell recently posted a great report on Malik Hooker in the NFL Draft Rumor Mill, as some teams consider him to be the top safety in the class and a potential top-10 pick.

Pick change; previously Myles Garrett, DE/OLB

  9. Cincinnati Bengals: Adoree Jackson, CB/KR, USC
The Bengals were once very strong at cornerback, but they’ve been weak at the position this year. Pacman Jones appears to have lost a step, while Dre Kirkpatrick has struggled mightily. Here’s a chance for Cincinnati to add some young blood at the position. Adoree Jackson is the highest-ranked cornerback on our 2017 NFL Draft Big Board.

Pick change; previously Malik Hooker, S

  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jonathan Allen, DE/DT, Alabama
Despite their six sacks of Andrew Luck, the Jaguars don’t pressure the quarterback consistently. They have some promising edge rushers in Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue, and while they could strengthen that position, they could also stand to bolster the interior of the defensive front.

Jonathan Allen is currently in the top five of our 2017 NFL Draft Big Board, as he has been dominant this year.

  11. New Orleans Saints: Marshaun Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
The Saints need to draft the best defensive player available. That could be Marshaun Lattimore, who would offer a tremendous boost at cornerback. The Saints lost Keenan Lewis this offseason and now is incredibly thin at the position. Delvin Breaux is a good player, but New Orleans needs to find someone to start across from him.

Marshaun Lattimore has been receiving high first-round grades, according to a recent post by Charlie Campbell in the rumor mill.

Pick change; previously Marlon Humphrey, CB

  12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jamal Adams, S, LSU
The Buccaneers may have the worst safeties in the NFL. They’ve been torched on a weekly basis, and this obviously has to improve, given that Tampa is in a division with Cam Newton, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees. Fortunately for the Buccaneers, there appear to be three safeties worth taking in the top 15.

  13. Detroit Lions: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
The Lions have a talented running back in Ameer Abdullah, but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Detroit knows all about injury-prone backs, so they’ll consider one of the top two running backs to help Matthew Stafford. Dalvin Cook is the top prospect available, so he makes a ton of sense at this juncture.

  14. Arizona Cardinals: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
The Cardinals made the mistake of rolling into the season with a former running back as one of the starting cornerbacks, and they were punished for it. They’ve since replaced Brandon Williams with Marcus Cooper, which has worked out. However, Cooper is just a temporary solution, and he’s an impending free agent anyway. The Cardinals need a long-term option across from Patrick Peterson.

Pick change; previously Jalen Tabor, CB

  15. Baltimore Ravens: Tim Williams, DE/OLB, Alabama
The Ravens struggled to get pressure on the quarterback when Elvis Dumervil was out of the lineup. Dumervil has returned, but the problem is that he and Terrell Suggs will be 33 and 34, respectively, by the 2017 NFL Draft. Some young blood will be needed on the edge.

  16. Tennessee Titans: JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC
I dropped JuJu Smith-Schuster into the second round in some of my previous updates because he had gotten off to a very slow start, but he has improved recently, so I’m willing to slot him into the middle of the first round again. The Titans would be interested in him, as they’re devoid of talent at receiver outside of Tajae Sharpe, who is more of a No. 2. We’ll have to see if Kendall Wright’s performance against the Browns was a fluke or not.
