*** 2017 NFL MOCK DRAFT (2 rounds) updated Sept. 8. This mock draft will be updated occasionally. Check out old versions of this 2017 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock section. Follow @walterfootball for NFL Draft updates. ***
  1. San Francisco 49ers: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
It sounds like teams and scouts really like DeShone Kizer, and why wouldn’t they? He has the arm, accuracy and mobility, and as of right now, he’s the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The 49ers obviously need a quarterback. Of their two primary signal-callers, one is cowardly and does nothing but toss checkdowns, while the other distracts his team with political antics. San Francisco needs to begin anew with either Kizer or Deshaun Watson. Hiring a new head coach and general manager would help, too, as would finding a new owner.

Pick change; previously Brad Kaaya, QB

  2. Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
The Browns traded away the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Eagles, passing on the possibility of drafting a quarterback. Cleveland did the smart thing. Not only did it acquire tons of selections to bolster the roster, but it also made sure that it would have a better chance of securing a better quarterback in a stronger draft class.

College football’s version of Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson had an amazing run despite being just a mere sophomore. The sky’s the limit for him.

  3. New Orleans Saints: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
Myles Garrett is a monstrous pass-rusher, and he’s currently the odds-on favorite to be the first non-quarterback prospect chosen in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Saints have one of the worst defenses in the NFL, and their primary weakness is not having anyone to get to opposing passers from the edge. Drafting Garrett would easily help fix that.

Pick change; previously Charles Harris, DE/OLB

  4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
I dropped Cam Robinson to the second round of this 2017 NFL Mock Draft over the summer in the wake of his arrest, but he’s been cleared, and it sounds like most teams will consider him, though we’ll have to see how he interviews. Robinson is easily the top tackle in this class, and I’m sure the Jaguars would love to add him in order to finally solidify the blind-side spot, which has been a problem for a very long time.

Pick change; previously Jabrill Peppers, S/LB/CB

  5. Atlanta Falcons: Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee
It was a bit odd to see the Falcons eschew their pass rush in the 2016 NFL Draft, especially when Shaq Lawson dropped to them at No. 17. I’m sure that after another year of struggling to get to the quarterback, they’ll be desperate for an edge rusher in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Derek Barnett had a whopping 10 sacks as a freshman and recorded that same number in his second season at Tennessee. He could help Atlanta’s meager pass rush.

  6. Cleveland Browns: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson aren’t bad running backs, but their talent level isn’t anywhere near what Leonard Fournette possesses, and I’d have to imagine that the Browns would love to pair their new quarterback with a game-changing runner like Fournette.

Fournette is a better prospect that Ezekiel Elliott, who went No. 4 overall this past April. Considering this, he’s a steal at No. 6.

Pick change; previously JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR

  7. Tennessee Titans: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama
The Titans will score plenty of points this season, so they almost have to select the top two defensive players available with their pair of draft picks. The best defender on the board almost has to be Marlon Humphrey, who has drawn lots of acclaim from scouts and teams, as Charlie Campbell reported. Humphrey would offer an enormous upgrade at cornerback.

Pick change; previously Myles Garrett, DE

  8. Tennessee Titans: Jamal Adams, S, LSU
Tennessee’s glaring weakness on the defensive side of the ball is in the secondary. Upgrades have to be made at both positions, including safety unless third-round rookie Kevin Byard shows promise this season. If not, it’ll be difficult for the Titans to pass up a talented safety like Jamal Adams.

  9. Miami Dolphins: Jalen Tabor, CB, Florida
Another team with a dire need for a cornerback happens to be Miami; the team has a very strong defensive line, but happens to be very weak on the back end. Fortunately for the Dolphins, there are two top-10 cornerbacks projected to be in this class, so they’ll be able to improve this area.

Pick change; previously Leonard Fournette, RB

  10. Indianapolis Colts: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
This is an easy, slam-dunk pick. The Colts almost have to draft Dalvin Cook. Sure, they have offensive line and defensive issues, but Cook is the best player on the board and also fills a huge need. The Colts have nothing beyond Frank Gore, whose expiration date is quickly approaching.

And yes, there’s a strong possibility that two running backs are chosen in the top 10. Cook and Leonard Fournette are that good. In fact, if you check out the NFL Draft Rumor Mill, you’ll see that some scouts believe that Cook may pass Fournette in the 2017 NFL Draft pecking order.

Pick change; previously Chris Wormley, DT

  11. New York Giants: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
This might be a bit of a reach, but after what has transpired with the Giants’ offensive line, as well as with losing out on Jack Conklin, I’d have to think that New York would bend over backward to select a new blind-side protector for Eli Manning, whose pass protection is awful. Ereck Flowers could slide over to the right side, where he’d be more comfortable.

Pick change; previously Dalvin Cook, RB

  12. New York Jets: Brad Kaaya, QB, Miami
The Jets don’t have a long-term answer at quarterback. Christian Hackenberg was just chosen in the second round, but he was so horrible at practice that Todd Bowles kept him out of the first two preseason games. Everyone else quickly learned why when Hackenberg self-destructed in the preseason finale. If the Jets have the opportunity to select a potential franchise quarterback, they have to do it.

Pick change; previously Dalvin Cook, RB

  13. Dallas Cowboys: Adoree Jackson, CB/WR/KR, USC
The Cowboys blew it by passing on Jalen Ramsey. Apparently, cornerbacks who can erase half the field – per their words when describing Ramsey – aren’t valuable commodities. Perhaps the front office will prevent Jerry Jones from making irresponsible decisions next spring.

Pick change; previously Desmond King, CB

  14. Chicago Bears: Desmond King, CB, Iowa
The Bears had the opportunity to draft Vernon Hargreaves when they moved up to No. 9, but they passed on him. As it turns out, they didn’t fix the glaring issue they have at cornerback, so this has to be a priority in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Pick change; previously Adoree Jackson, CB

  15. Detroit Lions: Jonathan Allen, DE/DT, Alabama
Detroit’s defensive line is very strong on the edge, but the team has yet to find a worthy replacement for Ndamukong Suh. Perhaps Jonathan Allen, who can fit into any scheme, will be able to help the Lions rush the passer from the interior.

Pick change; previously Jalen Tabor, CB

  16. San Diego Chargers: Jabrill Peppers, S/LB/CB, Michigan
The Chargers are strong in certain areas of their defense, but one major liablity is at safety, where they’re starting Dwight Lowery and the oft-penalized Jahleel Addae. They can do much better there, and they would do so by selecting the versatile Jabrill Peppers.

Pick change; previously Roderick Johnson, OT
