-
Jacksonville Jaguars: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
Jaguars could have had any defensive prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft, but they chose a right tackle even though they have a terrible defense void of any building blocks. David Caldwell and Gus Bradley illustrated where their priorities lie with that pick, so it isn't a stretch that they would take a franchise quarterback instead of the phenom Jadeveon Clowney.
Bridgewater (6-3, 218) was going to go to Miami before the school fired coach Randy Shannon. New Louisville coach Charlie Strong convinced Bridgewater to spurn other schools and head north to Kentucky.
Bridgewater completed 69 percent of his passes in 2012 for 3,718 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The sophomore signal-caller displayed a strong, accurate arm and good decision-making. He should only get better with more experience. Bridgewater was excellent against one of the best defenses in the nation as he led his team to an upset win over Florida in the 2013 Sugar Bowl.
Bridgewater completed 64 percent of his throws for 2,129 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a freshman starter.
Pass along your thoughts on this mock. I'll put together a mail bag periodically that answers questions/comments sent via email draftcampbell@gmail.com or on Twitter @draftcampbell.
Pick change; previously Jadeveon Clowney, DE -
Buffalo Bills: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
The Bills could use another pass-rusher as Mark Anderson hasn't panned out. Clowney is a great scheme fit for any defense. He could be the second coming of Bruce Smith for Buffalo.
A prep superstar, Clowney was the top recruit in the nation for 2011 and didn't disappoint as a freshman. He was the 2011 SEC Freshman of the Year and a Second-Team All-SEC selection.
Clowney has shown off elite speed and athleticism as a pass-rusher since Day 1. He totaled 36 tackles, eight sacks, 12 tackles for a loss and five forced fumbles as a true freshman. Clowney did well against top competition including a good game versus Georgia's Cordy Glenn.
Clowney was a dominant force in 2012 as one of the best players in college football. The sophomore amassed 54 tackles, 23.5 tackles for a loss and 13 sacks. Steve Spurrier said Clowney was NFL-ready coming out of high school.
The 6-foot-6, 272-pounder could turn into the Andrew Luck of defensive draft prospects; a high-pick lock who is extremely coveted by every team in the NFL. The scary part: Clowney could be become even better as he gains strength. Clowney is impossible to single-block and tied for the second in the nation in sacks in 2012.
Pick change; previously Anthony Barr, OLB -
Oakland Raiders: Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson
The Raiders need a franchise quarterback. Matt Flynn and Terrell Pryor aren't long-term starters for Oakland. Boyd is a good fit in Oakland's offense and could reinvigorate the organization.
Boyd was one of the best quarterbacks in college football last year. The junior completed 67 percent of his passes for 3,896 yards, 36 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also ran for 769 yards (514 net) with 10 touchdowns on the ground. Boyd finished the season by leading an impressive fourth-quarter comeback win over a good LSU defense. He made some tremendous throws to move the ball for points.
Boyd completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 3,828 yards with 33 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2011. The sophomore also ran for 462 yards (218 net) and five touchdowns.
Boyd is not an elite runner, but the 6-foot-1, 220-pound signal-caller has good mobility and can also live as a pocket-passer. He made big improvements in his accuracy as a junior. Boyd is very smart about taking what a defense is giving him and spreading the ball around to use all of his play-makers.
Pick change; previously Teddy Bridgewater, QB -
Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
The Browns need a franchise quarterback. The new regime will probably be quick to move on from Brandon Weeden in 2014. Manziel should have an appeal to head coach Rod Chudzinski.
Manziel took college football by storm in 2012 on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy. The redshirt freshman completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,706 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The first-year starter also ran for 1,571 yards (1,410 net) with 21 touchdowns. Alabama's defense, laden with NFL talent, was incapable of stopping him. Manziel should only get better as he gains experience.
The concern that Manziel (6-1, 200) is undersized is being eased by the quality play of some other short NFL quarterbacks. Drew Brees is a dominant force and future Hall of Famer; Russell Wilson had a phenomenal rookie year to help disprove the height requirement. If Manziel maintains his current level of play, plenty of teams will be willing to overlook the height issue.
Pick change; previously Tajh Boyd, QB -
Arizona Cardinals: Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA
The Cardinals landed a steal with Alex Okafor in the fourth round of the 2013 NLF Draft, but he won't prevent them from adding another edge-rusher. Barr could form a nice pass rushing duo with Okafor. Sam Acho and O'Brien Schofield registered only four sacks each last season, so they could provide depth.
In 2012, Barr went from being an obscure fullback who had a total of 12 receptions in two years to a potential first-round pick as a pass-rushing outside linebacker. Barr owes Jim Mora, Jr. and his coaching staff for making the position change.
Barr had a breakout junior season and was one of the nation's leader in sacks. He collected 13 sacks, 83 tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, five passes batted and four forced fumbles. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder is a tremendous blitzer who would fit well in a NFL 3-4 defense.
Barr was consistently good all year, but was utterly dominant to close out the regular season. He then made the smart decision to return to UCLA for the 2013 season. Barr can still use some developmental time and that further growth could easily push him into the top 10.
Pick change; previously Johnny Manziel, QB -
New York Jets: Marqise Lee, WR, USC
The Jets wanted Tavon Austin but missed out on him when the Rams traded in front of them. Santonio Holmes may not be a long-term player for New York and Lee could be a stud No. 1 receiver for Geno Smith.
Lee has the speed to stretch a defense vertically and is a threat to score on any reception. The 6-foot, 190-pounder was phenomenal in 2012 and was so dominant that he took over as USC's No. 1 receiver, while Robert Woods served as the secondary option. Lee hauled in 118 receptions for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Lee broke into the starting lineup as a freshman in 2011. Playing opposite Robert Woods, he had a big season hauling in 73 passes for 1,143 yards and 11 touchdowns. -
Kansas City Chiefs: Stephon Tuitt, DE, Notre Dame
The Chiefs need an impact lineman at the point of attack.
Tuitt (6-6, 303) took college football by storm in 2012. He was a dominant force for the Fighting Irish with his combination of power and surprising quickness.
Tuitt returned a fumble 77 yards for a touchdown against Navy and was living in the backfield all season. He had 12 sacks with 47 tackles and three forced fumbles. Manti Te'o received all the headlines, but Tuitt and Louis Nix were phenomenal for the Fighting Irish. Like the rest of the Notre Dame defense, Tuitt had a disappointing performance to end the season against Alabama. -
Philadelphia Eagles: Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida
It will be interesting to see if the Eagles' makeover at the cornerback position will produce better results. Jordan Poyer was a steal, but it wouldn't be surprising if Philadelphia needs cornerback help. Veterans Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher still have a lot to prove. I'm having the Eagles go with Purifoy over Bradley Roby because Chip Kelly likes corners with size and Purifoy is bigger than Roby.
Purifoy has displayed some man-coverage skills to be a good cornerback. The 6-foot-1, 189-pounder has an elite combination of size and speed to be a potential man corner in the NFL. He is also extremely physical and plays with a swagger.
Purifoy had a breakout season in 2012, recording 51 tackles, five passes broken up and three forced fumbles. The Gators' defensive scheme largely left him on an island in man coverage, yet he maintained good defense. The sophomore was also excellent on special teams. Purifoy was a backup corner and special teams contributor in 2011. The freshman chipped in 27 tackles and a forced fumbles, too.
Purifoy is so fast and such a dangerous play-maker that the Gators are planning on playing him on offense at wide receiver as well as at cornerback in 2013. Florida says he will play more corner than anything, but if the Gators' young receivers don't step up, Purifoy will be prepared to for double duty.
Pick change; previously Bradley Roby, CB -
San Diego Chargers: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
The Chargers could use a blind-side protector for Philip Rivers. Matthews could easily end up being a top-five pick.
Since Luke Joeckel left school to become a high first-round pick, Matthews will take over in 2013 as the left tackle to protect Johnny Manziel's blind side. Matthews was superb on the right side in 2012 and 2011.
Overall, the junior got the better of LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo in 2012. Matthews followed that performance with excellent games against Mississippi State and Alabama. Johnny Manziel picked up a lot of yards on the ground and through the air because of his fabulous tackle tandem.
The Aggies tackle is the son of Bruce Matthews, so the bloodlines are there for a standout NFL offensive lineman. Jake Matthews is both a superb pass-protector and a physical run-blocker; a superb cut-blocker, too. The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder is very quick and athletic. His intelligence and instincts are off the charts.
Pick change; previously Cyrus Kouandjio, OT -
Tennessee Titans: Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State
The Titans could look at a young cornerback in 2014.
Roby was awesome for Ohio State in 2012. He was one of the nation's leaders in passes defended with 19 total passes broken up - 17 batted away and two interceptions. Roby also recorded 63 tackles, a sack and blocked kick. He had three interceptions, six passes broken up and 47 tackles as a sophomore in 2011.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder is an instinctive cover corner who has a knack for big plays.
Pick change; previously Loucheiz Purifoy, CB -
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
The Bucs have a big hole at tight end. Luke Stocker is just backup quality. Austin Seferian-Jenkins makes up for Tampa Bay passing on Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham and Aaron Hernandez for the all-bust trio of Brian Price, Arrelious Benn and Myron Lewis.
Seferian-Jenkins was a freshman star for the Huskies in 2011. He was a fabulous receiving target for quarterback Keith Price. Seferian-Jenkins totaled 41 receptions for 538 yards and six touchdowns. He also contributed some quality blocking in the ground game and appears to have the ability to improve as he gains experience. Seferian-Jenkins had 69 receptions for 852 yards and seven touchdowns in 2012.
The 6-foot-6, 258-pounder already looks like he could start on Sundays. Seferian-Jenkins is a special athlete who played basketball for Washington after the 2011 football season. He has a rare combination of size, speed and athleticism. Seferian-Jenkins hurt his draft stock with a DUI arrest in the spring of 2013. -
Carolina Panthers: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama
The Panthers need a long-term left tackle to protect Cam Newton.
Kouandjio (6-6, 311) is a very talented prospect who could rise higher once he gains experience and develops his technique. The sophomore was Alabama's starting left tackle in 2012 and the reason that the team could move Barrett Jones from left tackle to center.
Kouandjio had some pass-protection issues and allowed some sacks in his first year as a full-time starter, but he also blasted open running lanes and showed the potential to be a quality pass-protector. Kouandjio is a very good athlete who has a big ceiling and is just getting started. It would not be surprising if he rises a lot higher before the 2014 or 2015 NFL Draft.
Pick change; previously Jake Matthews, OT -
Indianapolis Colts: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
The Colts grab their future No. 1 receiver for Andrew Luck. Reggie Wayne won't play forever.
Watkins had a fantastic freshman season in 2011. The speedster totaled 82 receptions for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ran the ball 32 times for 231 yards. The versatile receiver averaged 25 yards per kick return with one score.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder was a threat to score on any touch in 2011 and featured rare first-step quickness. He looks like a potential game-breaking receiver for the NFL.
Watkins was suspended for the first two games of 2012 and was then was banged up all year. That led to DeAndre Hopkins taking over as the primary receiver for Tajh Boyd. Watkins had 57 receptions for 708 yards and three touchdowns for the season. He also took 14 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore threw a 52-yard touchdown pass against Florida State, too.
Watkins should be more productive in 2013 as is the No. 1 receiver with Hopkins playing in the NFL.
Pick change; previously Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB -
Minnesota Vikings: Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU
The Vikings grab a play-making outside linebacker who will help their edge rush if they lose Jared Allen.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker is extremely explosive coming off the edge. He is a solid run-defender, but really excels in pass defense. Van Noy is a good athlete who drops into coverage well, yet he is still a phenomenal blitzer.
Van Noy has an excellent physical skill set with a lot of upside to develop in the NFL. He was one of the nation's leading sackers in 2012 with 13 quarterback takedowns. The junior also recorded 53 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, six forced fumbles, two interceptions and five passes batted.
Van Noy had 68 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, three passes batted and three interceptions in 2011.
Pick change; previously Sammy Watkins, WR -
Dallas Cowboys: C.J. Mosely, ILB/OLB, Alabama
The Cowboys could use a young stud outside linebacker for Monte Kiffin's Tampa 2. Kiffin built his defense around Derrick Brooks in Tampa Bay, and Mosley would be a good fit in that role.
Alabama lost a lot of talent in its front seven to the 2012 NFL Draft, but Mosley stepped up to set the tone for the Crimson Tide defense last year and helped lead the team to another National Championship. He was excellent and led the team in tackles with 107. The junior also notched two interceptions, four sacks, eight tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and two passes broken up. Mosely thrives in pass coverage, so he is tailor-made for an NFL defense.
The 6-foot-2, 232-pounder had an excellent debut in 2010. The freshman was third in tackles on Alabama's defense with 67. He also had 10 pass break-ups and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns.
Mosley was banged up some in 2011 and totaled only 37 tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss. He has a lot of talent and has been very productive for Nick Saban. -
Detroit Lions: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
The Lions clearly need an offensive tackle, and they didn't land one in the 2013 NFL Draft.
2012 was Lewan's third straight season as the starter at left tackle, and he got better as the season progressed. Lewan was solid as a pass-protector and very effective as a run-blocker. The redshirt junior didn't have his best games against Alabama or Ohio State, but he wasn't dominated by Jadeveon Clowney in the Outback Bowl. The Wolverines tackle held his own and had his share of wins. Lewan was a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection in 2011.
The 6-foot-8, 302-pounder is a good run-blocker with the athleticism to be a pass-protector. He should fill out his frame, but has ideal length and athleticism. Lewan has some serious upside and just needs more development.

Im kind of confused. You said Hubbard would be a great fit in a 3-4 defence yet you have him to the Bengals who run a 4-3. I don't have a problem with the pick, I was just wondering why you put him there.

Aaron Murray is no Drew Brees. It's folish to even compare him to Brees when he's still just in colege.

Depending on the new coaching staff of the Jets will decide in which direction the Jets will go. Geno Smith might not be in the plans of the new staff and will be a wasted pick again for Ryan and co. New staff new quarterback new philosophy. I think that with the dismal forecast for Jets the whole staff will be on the uneployment line, Ryan great d coordinator but not head coach material. I think Sanchez is a starting QB if he gets a little support from the offense, running game, decent WR and manage the game....

i have to say the changes u made for the jags draft is pretty bad. you dont pass on the Consensus Best Player in the draft at 1. either you take him or you get a team to pay out there ass to take clowney. round 2 i do think we need to go with Sutton. we need an interior Pass rusher.
idealy i like a Clowney and Sutton draft to start with a qb in round 3
