2014 NFL Mock Draft: Round 1 - Picks 17-32

Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.
The order of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft is based on my NFL Power Rankings.
-
Minnesota Vikings: A.J. McCarron, QB, Alabama
The Vikings didn't find a young quarterback this offseason because they didn't want to hurt Christian Ponder's confidence. However, if Ponder stinks again, Minnesota may look into drafting a young signal-caller.
I had A.J. McCarron in the second round of my previous update, but I'm hearing he belongs way earlier. I still want to see him have another strong campaign, but as it stands now, he could be chosen as high as the top 10.
Follow @walterfootball for updates.
Pick change; previously Aaron Colvin, DE
-
St. Louis Rams: James Hurst, OT, North Carolina
The Rams signed Jake Long, which will move Rodger Saffold to right tackle. For the time being anyway. There's some speculation that St. Louis could trade Saffold. Regardless, Saffold will be a free agent in March 2014.
-
Chicago Bears: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama
The Bears signed Jermon Bushrod this offseason to be Jay Cutler's new left tackle. Cutler may not like the results if Bushrod plays like he did in New Orleans. Even if Bushrod shows well, Chicago will need help at right tackle, given that J'Marcus Webb will be a free agent next spring.
-
St. Louis Rams: Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU
The Rams spent a first-round pick on a defensive tackle in 2012, but they could do so again sometime soon. Kendall Langford, signed to a 4-year, $24 million contract last offseason, has been a disappointment. He won't be around much longer at his high salary if he continues to struggle.
-
Cincinnati Bengals: HaHa Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama
Taylor Mays was so bad at safety that the Bengals had to move cornerback Nate Clements over to the position during the 2012 campaign. If they can't find an upgrade at safety this offseason - I'm not sure if third-rounder Shawn Williams counts - they'll have to do so the following spring.
Haha Clinton-Dix, named after what happened in the Monica Lewinsky scandal, has two brothers who are also promising prospects, Lol and Lmfao.
-
Miami Dolphins: Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame
The Dolphins were reportedly looking closely at defensive tackle prospects in the 2013 NFL Draft because both Randy Starks and Paul Soliai have expiring contracts this upcoming March.
Louis Nix would fill Soliai's void, as Miami continues to add 3-4 personnel.
-
New York Giants: Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida
Jerry Reese is a big fan of having tons of pass-rushers on his roster. He'll have to bolster the group next offseason if he can't re-sign free agent-to-be Justin Tuck.
Pick change; previously Scott Chrichton, DE/OLB
-
Atlanta Falcons: Will Sutton, DE/DT, Arizona State
The Falcons didn't address defensive tackle even though they have a hole there next to Jonathan Babineaux. Peria Jerry will be given one more chance to prove himself.
Will Sutton can line up both inside and outside to create tons of pressure on the quarterback. He'll be useful to have against Drew Brees and Cam Newton.
-
Houston Texans: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon
The Texans could use a cornerback for depth, but the primary need for one at this juncture would be for the future. Kareem Jackson will be a free agent in March 2015, so Loucheiz Purifoy would be able to sit behind him for a year before stepping in as a starter. Some of the guys on the forum complained about my habit of looking at contract dates in my mock drafts, but the Texans' sole purpose for selecting Whitney Mercilus a year ago was because they knew Connor Barwin would leave.
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, a third-team All-American, intercepted four passes and had 16 pass break-ups as a sophomore.
-
Baltimore Ravens: Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB, BYU
Rush linebacker is not an immediate need, but Terrell Suggs will be entering his contract year in 2014. What if he slows down at 31? What if Courtney Upshaw and John Simon don't develop?
Ozzie Newsome lands the best player available. I wanted to slot Kyle Van Noy around the 16th pick, but couldn't find a spot for him. Van Noy logged 13 sacks in 2012. He was espcially hot down the stretch, recording 5.5 sacks in his final three games.
Pick change; previously Loucheiz Purifoy, CB
-
New Orleans Saints: Adrian Hubbard, DE/OLB, Alabama
The Saints had several holes to fill in the 2013 NFL Draft, so they weren't able to obtain a pass-rusher until the sixth round with Rufus Johnson. They'll probably need to do so earlier next April.
Pick change; previously Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB
-
Green Bay Packers: A.J. Johnson, ILB, Tennessee
The Packers probably won't need to address the inside linebacker next offseason, but Ted Thompson likes to think ahead. Both Desmond Bishop and A.J. Hawk will have expiring contracts in the near future. It's likely that one of them will leave sometime soon.
Pick change; previously Daniel McCullers, NT
-
New England Patriots: Daniel McCullers, NT, Tennessee
The Patriots were another team to surprisingly avoid the defensive tackle position in the 2013 NFL Draft. They'll find help there once Tommy Kelly inevitably fails, though this is more of a long-term replacement for Vince Wilfork.
Pick change; previously Calvin Barnett, DT
-
San Francisco 49ers: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State
The 49ers can afford to take one of the best players available on the board with this pick because they have fewer needs than most teams. They could stand to find help at cornerback, especially given that as a 33-year-old, Carlos Rogers will be due more than $6 million. Also keep in mind that Nnamdi Asomugha and Tarell Brown have expiring contracts next March.
-
Denver Broncos: Scott Chrichton, DE/OLB, Oregon State
The Broncos had their choice of Sylvester Williams and Tank Carradine at No. 28 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. They opted for the former, prompting them to sign Shaun Phillips. The former Charger is just a temporary solution at defensive end.
Pick change; previously Trent Murphy, DE/OLB
-
Seattle Seahawks: Trent Murphy, DE/OLB, Stanford
The Seahawks made some savvy moves by signing Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril this offseason, but they were brought in for short-term deals. Seattle needs long-term pass-rushers.
Pick change; previously Adrian Hubbard, DE/OLB

@Bob. No, you're thinking of the Bears O-Line. Cutler will be on his back, wondering what happened to the season, thanks to those clowns. This season, Chicago is going to finish in the cellar.
Stafford will throw for over 5,000 yards. The NFC North is there for the taking! Lions are set to reach the playoffs for the first time in years. So you can burn you voodoo dolls, Bob. Lions are for real!

If OBJ is worth a 2nd rounder then Jarvis alandry and Kadron Boone are also worth one based on athleticism & potential.Boone will break onto the national stage and Landry will wow scouts at the combine like Terron Armstead did only Landry is a WR.

CJ Mosely 2nd round??? No way, he will be top 20.
Vinnie Sunseri????? He isn't even worthy of getting drafted. He is the reason A&M beat Bama last year. He sucks in coverage and he probably won't even start this season. Do you even watch football bro?

We'll take CJ Mosley in the first round. No way he falls to 2nd. Might even be worth trading up to get him if sean spence's career is really over.

A.J. McCarron to Cleveland? Dude, you are a hack. McCarron is a game manager at best, and he's supposed to be better than Weeden? There's other QB's in the 14 draft that will be a better fit found in the 2nd round over A.J. When you actually get a clue about what type of QB fits in a Norv Turner offense, go ahead and post it, till then go wave your pixie dust wand over some other team.

I know that Bridgewater is the Qb everyone wants, but I am telling you Jadeveon Clowney is hands down the best player to come out in the last 5 years. The guy is a freak. He has room to add 25-30 pounds and his quickness is second to none. Julius Peppers with a better work ethic and motor.
