2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 5

Last update: Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Major changes in all 5 rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
Don’t count out the Chiefs using a mid-round pick on a young quarterback to groom behind Alex Smith. If the Redskins could use first- and fourth-rounders on signal-callers, why can’t Kansas City?

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: David Quessenberry, G/C/OT, San Jose State
David Quessenberry makes a ton of sense for Jacksonville. The team has a big need at left guard and has to find a long-term center after Brad Meester retires. Quessenberry can play both positions.

Pick change; previously Luke Marquardt, OT

  3. Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Kasa, TE, Colorado
The Eagles have shown a ton of interest in Nick Kasa – go here to see the 2013 NFL Draft Prospect Meetings – but that shouldn’t be a surprise, given that Kelly is familiar with Kasa, having coached against him in the Pac-12. Kelly loves utilizing tight ends in his offense, and the Eagles need one even after signing James Casey, given that Brent Celek is in decline.

  4. Detroit Lions: Will Davis, CB, Utah State
The Lions still need cornerback help even after re-signing Chris Houston.

Pick change; previously Will Davis, CB

  5. Seattle Seahawks: Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
Here’s some more help for Russell Wilson. Despite Zach Miller’s heroic conversion on third-and-long early against Washington, the Seahawks could look into bringing in a new tight end.

  6. Cleveland Browns: Chase Thomas, DE/OLB, Stanford
Michael Lombardi is a fan of having tons of pass-rushers. He could use some more depth.

  7. Arizona Cardinals: Jawan Jamison, RB, Rutgers
The Cardinals don’t have a proven running back on their roster, so they may spend a mid-round pick on a possible upgrade.

Pick change; previously Le’Veon Bell, RB

  8. New York Jets: B.W. Webb, CB, William & Mary
Regardless of whether or not they trade Darrelle Revis, look for the Jets to spend at least one pick on a cornerback. Rex Ryan loves drafting corners.

Pick change; previously Michael Buchanan, DE/OLB

  9. Tennessee Titans: Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech
Right tackle David Stewart probably won’t be around much longer, so the Titans may want to find a possible successor in the 2013 NFL Draft.

  10. Buffalo Bills: Josh Evans, S, Florida
The Bills cut George Wilson, so they’ll need some depth at safety.

Pick change; previously Michael Williams, TE

  11. New Orleans Saints: William Gholston, DE/DT, Michigan State
The Saints need to continue adding personnel for their new 3-4. They’re pretty thin up front.

  12. San Diego Chargers: Brandon McGee, CB, Miami
The Chargers signed Derek Cox recently, but they still need at least one more cornerback because they’re so thin at the position.

Pick change; previously Trevardo Williams, DE/OLB

  13. Miami Dolphins: Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State
The Dolphins franchised Randy Starks, but Paul Soliai is entering his walk year. That means both defensive tackles will be free agents next March.

Pick change; previously Gerald Hodges, OLB

  14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois
The Buccaneers don’t ever shy away from doubling up on positions. They may do so at cornerback, as this was a huge area of need even before the Aqib Talib trade.

Pick change; previously Josh Johnson, CB

  15. Carolina Panthers: Duke Williams, S, Nevada
Hiro Nakamura could stop time. Haruki Nakamura can’t stop anyone. He has to be upgraded. The Panthers desperately need safety help.

Pick change; previously Earl Wolff, S

  16. St. Louis Rams: Gerald Hodges, OLB, Penn State
James Laurinaitis and JoLonn Dunbar played pretty well this past season, but no one the team tried at strongside linebacker did very well.

Pick change; previously Sanders Commings, S

  17. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma
More help for Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers need a new wideout after losing Mike Wallace.

Pick change; previously Jawan Jamison, RB

  18. Dallas Cowboys: Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&M
The Cowboys just signed Justin Durant, but they still need to add some linebacker depth.

Pick change; previously Josh Boyce, WR

  19. New York Giants: Sanders Commings, CB/S, Georgia
The Giants re-sign Aaron Ross, but they could still stand to use a mid-round pick on a cornerback after how poorly Corey Webster played last year.

Pick change; previously Kenny Stills, WR

  20. Chicago Bears: Luke Marquardt, OT, Azusa Pacific
Here’s another offensive lineman for the Bears. They clearly aren’t too pleased with J’Marcus Webb, so they may want to bring in some competition for him.

Pick change; previously Brian Winters, G

  21. Washington Redskins: Rod Sweeting, CB, Georgia Tech
The Redskins have to come away from the 2013 NFL Draft with at least two cornerbacks. They’re so thin at the position.

Pick change; previously Brandon McGee, CB

  22. Minnesota Vikings: Reid Fragel, OT, Ohio State
The Vikings don’t have much behind Phil Loadholt and Matt Kalil at tackle, so they may spend a mid-round pick on depth.

Pick change; previously Jordan Hill, DT

  23. Cincinnati Bengals: Zac Dysert, QB, Miami of Ohio
The Bengals’ current No. 2 quarterback is Zac Robinson, so they may draft a backup signal-caller in the middle rounds this April.

  24. San Francisco 49ers: Tavarres King, WR, Georgia
Both Anquan Boldin and Mario Manningham have expiring contracts next spring, so the 49ers may want to use a pick on a wideout now so that he’s ready to step in come 2014.

Pick change; previously Kwame Geathers, NT

  25. Seattle Seahawks: Demetrius McCray, CB, Appalachian State
The Seahawks haven’t drafted a cornerback yet, so here’s one. Demetrius McCray is the type of tall, long corner Pete Carroll loves to have on his defense.

  26. Green Bay Packers: Stansly Maponga, DE/OLB, TCU
Before Erik Walden left, I wrote that the Packers need to make sure Walden wouldn’t be on the field next year. It’s strange that the Colts paid him so much money.

  27. Houston Texans: Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn State
The Texans will be looking for multiple inside linebackers in the draft because they have no depth there.

Pick change; previously Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB

  28. Denver Broncos: Mike Catapano, DE, Princeton
As I’m typing this, I saw a report on Twitter (@walterfootball) that said the Broncos failed to sign John Abraham. If they can’t fix the issue caused by Faxgate in free agency, they’ll have to draft a defensive end.

Pick change; previously Terry Hawthorne, CB

  29. Washington Redskins: Trevardo Williams, DE/OLB, Connecticut
The Redskins lost Lorenzo Alexander to the Cardinals, so they may want to add to their outside linebacker depth.

Pick change; previously Travis Long, DE/OLB

  30. Atlanta Falcons: Akeem Spence, DT, Illinois
More help for the Falcons’ defensive line. Peria Jerry just can’t seem to live up to his potential because of his knee problems.

  31. San Francisco 49ers: Walter Stewart, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
The 49ers are all about drafting high-upside players and redshirting them until they’re ready to play. They could do that with Walter Stewart, who would be a second-round prospect if it weren’t for his injury concerns.

  32. Baltimore Ravens: Michael Williams, TE, Alabama
Both Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson will be free agents next spring, so the Ravens are unlikely to keep both. Here’s a replacement.

Pick change; previously Shawn Williams, S

  33. Miami Dolphins: Josh Johnson, CB, Purdue
With Sean Smith gone, the Dolphins will probably be looking to draft two cornerbacks early this April.

Pick change; previously Joseph Fauria, TE

  34. Green Bay Packers: Earl Wolff, S, N.C. State
The Packers just brought in free-agent Michael Huff for a visit. They want help at safety, so if they can’t land the former Raider, they’ll have to turn to the draft.

Pick change; previously Joseph Fauria, TE

  35. Baltimore Ravens: Shawn Williams, S, Georgia
If the Ravens can’t retain Ed Reed, they’ll need to find two new safeties.

Pick change; previously Michael Mauti, ILB
