2023 Fantasy Football Stock Report – Training Camp

Sept. 7

Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams
Cooper Kupp has been ruled out for the season opener. Even worse, Sean McVay has stated that he hasn’t ruled out placing Kupp on injured reserve.

Sept. 6

Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs
Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee in Tuesday’s practice. While he avoided an ACL tear, it seems unlikely that he’ll play in Week 1. Do not draft him in the first round now. Players who would be helped by his absence are Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, and Noah Gray.

Sept. 5

Kendrick Bourne, WR, Patriots
Reports indicate that the Patriots are worried that JuJu Smith-Schuster’s knee is on the verge of “exploding,” which obviously sounds quite horrible. This is another reason to like Kendrick Bourne.

Sept. 3

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Lions
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson told the media that he will use Gibbs in ways “people don’t think we might.” If he means the goal line, Gibbs will challenge to be a top-15 fantasy player at the very least.

Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams
Cooper Kupp is visiting with a “noted body specialist” to “better understand his hamstring issue.” Uh oh. This obviously doesn’t sound very good. Given this news, it’s very difficult to justify drafting Kupp in the first round.

Sept. 2

Romeo Doubs, WR, Packers
Romeo Doubs has not practiced this week because of a hamstring issue. Soft-tissue injuries tend to linger, so Doubs could either miss time or be limited for the first couple of games.

Evan Hull, RB, Colts
Not only is Jonathan Taylor on the PUP list; Zack Moss is also expected to miss Week 1 with an injury. Both Evan Hull and Deon Jackson’s stock have risen as a result.

Sept. 1

Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams
Cooper Kupp suffered a setback with his muscle strain and is considered “day to day.” While you shouldn’t ring the alarm bells yet, soft-tissue injuries tend to linger. If Kupp is out Week 1, Tyler Higbee could see 50 targets versus the Seahawks.

Aug. 31

Joe Burrow, QB, Bengals
Joe Burrow returned to practice Wednesday, putting him on track to play in the season opener. There was some fear that Burrow wouldn’t be available for Week 1, but that is no longer a possibility.

Raheem Mostert, RB, Dolphins
Raheem Mostert’s stock is way up with Jeff Wilson Jr. landing on the PUP list. Wilson will be out for four games at the very least. De’Von Achane, meanwhile, is also nursing an injury. This just leaves Mostert as Miami’s lone, viable running back.

Aug. 30

Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts
Jonathan Taylor has not been traded and has been placed on the PUP list, meaning he’ll miss the first four games of the season. There’s a chance that this ultimately becomes a Le’Veon Bell situation, with Taylor missing the entire year. With Taylor out for a month or more, Evan Hull is the most appealing of all the other Indianapolis running backs.

Aug. 29

James Conner, RB, Cardinals
James Conner was appealing from a PPR standpoint because Colt McCoy didn’t have the arm strength to push the ball downfield at all. McCoy, however, was waived, so Conner’s predicted reception count took a hit.

Aug. 27

Josh Jacobs, RB, Raiders
There was some concern that Josh Jacobs’ holdout would continue into the season, but that’s no longer the case. Jacobs signed a 1-year, $12 million deal, so he will be on the field for the Raiders come Week 1. This obviously hurts Zamir White’s outlook.

Aug. 26

Rachaad White, RB, Buccaneers
Rachaad White has reportedly been splitting first-team reps with rookie Sean Tucker in practice. This is a surprise, but only because Tucker was undrafted. White was a pedestrian runner last year, and he figures to be even worse with the offensive line regressing.

Aug. 25

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Broncos
Jerry Jeudy suffered a hamstring injury in practice and could miss several weeks. Denver receivers are going down like flies, and this injury will hurt a lot. Soft-tissue injuries tend to linger, so Jeudy could be sidelined for a bit.

Terry McLaurin, WR, Redskins
Terry McLaurin is uncertain for Week 1, according to Adam Schefter. Thanks to Ron Rivera’s brilliant coaching, which had McLaurin on the field late into the second quarter of preseason game No. 2, the star Redskin receiver is still dealing with a toe injury that could keep him sidelined into the regular season.

Aug. 24

D.J. Chark, WR, Panthers
D.J. Chark is likely to miss time with a hamstring injury. According to beat writer Joe Person, “It doesn’t look great.” This is certainly nothing new for Chark.

Corey Davis, WR, Jets
Corey Davis has announced his retirement. This will help solidify Allen Lazard’s role in the Jets’ offense.

Juwan Johnson, TE, Saints
Juwan Johnson has been one of the most reliable targets for Derek Carr, according to an ESPN report. We saw this connection in the first preseason game when Johnson caught two passes on the opening drive.

Aug. 23

Bijan Robinson, RB, Falcons
Peter King said that fantasy owners should be “really, really careful” with drafting Bijan Robinson. He said “really” twice, so I guess he really, really means it. The Chief went on to project Jake Bobo as a fantasy sleeper, so it’s difficult to take him seriously.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seahawks
Jaxon Smith-Njigba will undergo wrist surgery. This won’t hurt him too much, but any missed time is impactful for a rookie. I’d bump Smith-Njigba down a couple of spots, but there’s still a chance he could be ready for Week 1.

Aug. 18

Calvin Austin, WR, Steelers
Calvin Austin has had the most eye-opening camp of any Pittsburgh receiver, according to a report from the Athletic. Austin has drawn glowing feedback from multiple writers, but we’ll have to see if that translates into real-game action with the starters.

Kendre Miller, RB, Saints
Kendre Miller returned to practice Thursday after spraining his knee in the opening preseason game. It was initially speculated that Miller could miss Week 1, but it now seems that he’ll be ready for the Sept. 10 matchup against Tennessee.

Luke Musgrave, TE, Packers
Luke Musgrave has been exceptional in training camp, according to multiple reports. The rookie tight end is very athletic and has loads of potential, as No Cookie Jordan Love will likely lean on him as an intermediate threat.

Aug. 17

Treylon Burks, WR, Titans
Though Treylon Burks is getting a stock-down arrow, he received some good news after being carted off the field. Burks will miss a few weeks with an LCL sprain, so thankfully, he won’t be out for the year.

Breece Hall, RB, Jets
Breece Hall is dealing with knee soreness, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. This sort of stuff happens to skill players coming off ACL tears. Don’t draft Hall this year.

Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts
Jonathan Taylor has left camp for personal reasons. Between this nonsense and the injured ankle, you have to wonder if Taylor is in great shape right now.

Aug. 16

Breece Hall, RB, Jets
The Jets have signed Dalvin Cook. This obviously is not a good indicator for Breece Hall’s health this year.

Anthony Richardson, QB, Colts
Anthony Richardson has been named the starter. It was bound to happen, but we now have confirmation. Richardson is well worth a late-round pick because of his immense upside.

Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, Patriots
The Patriots have signed Ezekiel Elliott. While Rhamondre Stevenson is still the favorite to lead the team in carries, Elliott will take away the goal-line opportunities.

Aug. 11

Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Eagles
Kenneth Gainwell has been receiving more reps as the Eagles’ early-down back. This is interesting because Gainwell also has been serving as the team’s two-minute running back. Keep in mind, however, that the Eagles will likely use a three-man committee. I’d stay away from this mess.

Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts
The Colts have said that they don’t know when Jonathan Taylor will return from his ankle injury – the same ankle that gave him issues in 2022. It could be possible that Taylor is using this as an excuse to remain away from the team because he is disgruntled with his contract situation. Either way, it’s worrisome.

Aug. 10

Calvin Austin, WR, Steelers
Calvin Austin was mentioned as someone who could claim substantial snaps in the slots, according to NFL Network. Austin has looked good in training camp thus far, so he could beat out Allen Robinson as the No. 3 receiver.

Skyy Moore, WR, Chiefs
Skyy Moore has been with the first-string offense during every rep in training camp when the Chiefs have run two-receiver sets. Moore was a huge dud in his rookie campaign, but it appears as though he’s ready to be a big producer for Kansas City.

Jayden Reed, WR, Packers
Jayden Reed has seemingly won the slot role in Green Bay. Reed has been outstanding in training camp and is worth a look late in drafts.

Aug. 8

James Cook, RB, Bills
Damien Harris has clearly been behind James Cook throughout training camp, according to reports. It appears as though Cook is the No. 1 runner for now, but Buffalo could always add someone if Cook disappoints.

Elijah Moore, WR, Browns
I’ve added Elijah Moore to the 2023 Fantasy Football Sleepers page, as he has enjoyed a terrific camp with Deshaun Watson.

Aug. 4

Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seahawks
Zach Charbonnet was reported as being out indefinitely, but he was back on the practice field on Thursday. With Kenneth Walker being banged up, Charbonnet is worth a look in the second half of your fantasy draft.

Tank Dell, WR, Texans
Tank Dell has performed on a high level in Texans training camp. He has shown nice chemistry with C.J. Stroud, and his offensive coordinator called him an “elite separator.”

Jalin Hyatt, WR, Giants
Jalin Hyatt has been a star of Giants’ training camp, connecting with Daniel Jones on some deep throws. Hyatt, who had some first-round draft chatter, could end up with a great rookie campaign.

Aug. 3

Alvin Kamara, RB, Saints
Ian Rapoport said that he expects Alvin Kamara to be suspended, though he wasn’t sure how long the ban would be. Rapoport guessed anywhere between two and six games, which would actually be a better outcome than originally expected for Kamara.

Aug. 2

James Cook, RB, Bills
James Cook has been the No. 1 running back by far in training camp thus far. This comes after Buffalo’s offensive coordinator called him a three-down back. Cook should be bumped up rankings, though he could still lose the goal-line work to Damien Harris.

Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams
Cooper Kupp left Tuesday’s practice with a hamstring injury and will be out a few weeks. Now is a good time to be out just a few weeks because it means that Kupp could be ready for the season opener on Sept. 10. However, soft-tissue injuries can linger, so Kupp could aggravate the issue if he returns too early.

Anthony Richardson, QB, Colts
Anthony Richardson received all 18 starting reps in Tuesday’s practice. Unless he bombs in the preseason, Richardson appears on track to start the season opener versus Jacksonville.

Aug. 1

Tim Patrick, WR, Broncos
Tim Patrick tore his Achilles and will be out for the year. It’s a shame for Patrick, who was working hard to return from a torn ACL.

Anthony Richardson, QB, Colts
Anthony Richardson has been terrific in training camp thus far, and some Colts beat reporters expect him to start Week 1. Richardson still needs to perform well in the preseason, but at least he’s off to a good start in the pros.

Bijan Robinson, RB, Falcons
Bijan Robinson has looked terrific thus far in training camp, lining up all over the field. Robinson looks to be well worth his first-round ADP price tag.

July 30

Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seahawks
Zach Charbonnet is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury. Kenneth Walker is hurt as well, but Charbonnet needed the reps to challenge for snaps.

D’Andre Swift, RB, Eagles
D’Andre Swift has been used primarily as a receiver in practice thus far. This is bullish for his PPR outlook, but Rashaad Penny is getting the first looks as a runner.

July 28

Davante Adams, WR, Raiders
Jimmy Garoppolo was able to practice to open up training camp, which obviously bodes extremely well for Davante Adams.

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Raiders
So much for Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury! There was speculation that Brian Hoyer would open the season as the starter, but Jimmy Garoppolo was on the field to open training camp.

July 27

D’Andre Swift, RB, Eagles
Rashaad Penny ran as the Eagles’ first-string running back to open training camp. There’s still some major concern about Penny’s durability, but this is more of a hit to D’Andre Swift’s fantasy outlook.

July 23

Dalvin Cook, RB, TBA
It’s sounding like Dalvin Cook may face a suspension because of some serious off-the-field issues. Even if Cook isn’t suspended, teams may not want to touch him at this time.

Skyy Moore, WR, Chiefs
Skyy Moore had a disastrous rookie campaign, but he’s reportedly been much better this offseason. Moore is not the first receiver to have a puff piece written about him in the summer, but he’s a legitimate talent who could make a big leap in 2023.

June 4

Treylon Burks, WR, Titans
Treylon Burks has been Ryan Tannehill’s preferred target in workouts thus far. This isn’t a huge development, but it’s a stark difference compared to Burks’ disastrous 2022 offseason. Burks should make a decent jump this season, but remember that the Titans operate a run-first attack.

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Lions
Jahmyr Gibbs has been taking reps with the first-team offense. David Montgomery is out with a leg injury, so Gibbs is making the most out of his opportunity.

Alexander Mattison, RB, Vikings
Alexander Mattison was referred to as an every-down running back by his head coach. This is key because it sounds like Dalvin Cook could be traded or cut soon, opening the door for Mattison to be a great fantasy producer.
