2007 NFL Super Mock

April 26, 2007
What is this Super Mock? I've taken the 40 most recently updated NFL Mock Drafts found across the internet (as of April 25) and counted whom they've selected at every pick in the first round. I then tallied the players and made a "consensus" mock draft with the results. You can check out which mocks I've used below. I only made two exceptions: 1) I didn't use any "real" media mock drafts -- only us small guys. 2) I didn't use any site with torrents of videos and graphics because they crashed my 6-year-old computer.

  1. Oakland Raiders 2007 Draft Pick Oakland Raiders: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU (87.5%)
Out of the 40 mocks I polled, 35 had JaMarcus Russell going No. 1 (which happened to be 87.5 percent of the mocks, denoting the number above). The other five went with Calvin Johnson.

  2. Detroit Lions 2007 Draft Pick Detroit Lions: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson (52.5%)
More than half the mocks had Gaines Adams going No. 2, projecting some sort of trade with Tampa Bay or Atlanta. Calvin Johnson was the second pick in 10 mocks, while Joe Thomas was chosen in four.

  3. Cleveland Browns 2007 Draft Pick Cleveland Browns: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame (57.5%)
Twenty-three of the mocks have the Browns taking Quinn, while 13 have chosen Adrian Peterson instead. Other votes include: Joe Thomas (2), JaMarcus Russell (1) and Calvin Johnson (1).

  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2007 Draft Pick Tampa Bay Bucs: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech (60%)
This is the second half of the Gaines Adams-Calvin Johnson swap. Sixty percent have Johnson going here. Adams, meanwhile, is at 17.5 percent. Joe Thomas is notable (12.5 percent).

  5. Arizona Cardinals 2007 Draft Pick Arizona Cardinals: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin (70%)
Excluding JaMarcus Russell, no one was chosen in one spot more than Joe Thomas.

  6. Washington Redskins 2007 Draft Pick Washington Redskins: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville (37.5%)
Although only 37.5 percent of the mocks chose Amobi Okoye to go No. 6, he was still the overwhelming favorite. Next was Gaines Adams at 17.5 percent. LaRon Landry (15%), Jamaal Anderson (12.5%) and Alan Branch (12.5%) round out the top five.

  7. Minnesota Vikings 2007 Draft Pick Minnesota Vikings: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma (37.5%)
Basically the same thing as the last pick. Adrian Peterson, at 15 votes, beat out Brady Quinn (20%), LaRon Landry (15%) and Jamaal Anderson (12.5%).

  8. Atlanta Falcons 2007 Draft Pick Atlanta Falcons: LaRon Landry, S, LSU (57.5%)
The only other player worth mentioning is Amobi Okoye at 17.5 percent. LaRon Landry dwarfed everyone by getting picked 23 times.

  9. Miami Dolphins 2007 Draft Pick Miami Dolphins: Levi Brown, OT, Penn State (42.5%)
Congratulations on your new left tackle, Miami. Other choices were Amobi Okoye (17.5%) and Brady Quinn (12.5%).

  10. Houston Texans 2007 Draft Pick Houston Texans: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan (37.5%)
Let me just note that Leon Hall wasn't picked the most at this spot. Levi Brown beat him out, 17-15. However, because Brown was picked by Miami, Houston will have to settle with Hall.

  11. San Francisco 49ers 2007 Draft Pick San Francisco 49ers: Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska (40%)
Adam Carriker received some resistance from Alan Branch (22.5%) and Patrick Willis (15%). But so far, so good. All 13 picks in my mock have matched up with these (excluding the position of Gaines Adams and Calvin Johnson, but I ordered them in terms of where they'll be picked).

  12. Buffalo Bills 2007 Draft Pick Buffalo Bills: Patrick Willis, MLB, Ole Miss (47.5%)
Buffalo has a lot of options at No. 12, but nearly half of the mocks think Marv Levy will take Patrick Willis. Twenty percent have Marshawn Lynch going here, while 12.5 percent chose Leon Hall.

  13. St. Louis Rams 2007 Draft Pick St. Louis Rams: Alan Branch, DT, Michigan (35%)
Alan Branch was taken at No. 13 in 35 percent of the mocks, but no one was really close to him. Ted Ginn was picked in 15 percent, while Jamaal Anderson and Amobi Okoye each were at 12.5 percent.

  14. Carolina Panthers 2007 Draft Pick Carolina Panthers: Greg Olsen, TE, Miami (47.5%)
This is the first time the Super Mock and I differ. I have Reggie Nelson going here. Meanwhile, Nelson has been taken in only 15 percent of the mocks. Greg Olsen is the overwhelming favorite.

  15. Pittsburgh Steelers 2007 Draft Pick Pittsburgh Steelers: Lawrence Timmons, OLB, FSU (17.5%)
This was a tight race. At 17.5 percent, Lawrence Timmons barely beat out Jamaal Anderson, Adam Carriker and Darrelle Revis, all of whom were at 15 percent. Leon Hall wasn't far behind (12.5%).

  16. Green Bay Packers 2007 Draft Pick Green Bay Packers: Marshawn Lynch, RB, California (62.5%)
Unlike the last pick, there was no doubt about whom the mocks thought Green Bay would take. Twenty-five out of 40 have Marshawn Lynch going 16th. Ted Ginn was chosen five times, while Greg Olsen was picked four times.

  17. Jacksonville Jaguars 2007 Draft Pick Jacksonville Jaguars: Reggie Nelson, FS, Florida (35%)
If Carolina passes on Reggie Nelson, it's likely Jacksonville will take him. Apparently some of the mocks agree with me. Jamaal Anderson and Adam Carriker were closest, each at 12.5 percent.

  18. Cincinnati Bengals 2007 Draft Pick Cincinnati Bengals: Darrelle Revis, CB, Pittsburgh (15%)
This one was up for grabs. Want to know how close it was? Alan Branch actually won with 17.5 percent of the mocks, but he is the majority leader at No. 13. Darrelle Revis was next. Aaron Ross wasn't too far behind at 10 percent.

  19. Tennessee Titans 2007 Draft Pick Tennessee Titans: Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee (20%)
I have Robert Meachem going here, and so do the majority of the mocks. But not an overwhelming majority. Ted Ginn and Darrelle Revis were both extremely close at 17.5 percent.

  20. New York Giants 2007 Draft Pick New York Giants: Joseph Staley, OT, Central Michigan (22.5%)
Joseph Staley and Paul Posluszny actually tied at 22.5 percent, but the latter happened to win the majority vote at another spot in the first round. Staley didn't. Lawrence Timmons was close by at a 17.5 clip.

  21. Denver Broncos 2007 Draft Pick Denver Broncos: Jarvis Moss, DE/OLB, Florida (25%)
I find it odd that so many mocks have Denver's 4-3 defense incorporating a 3-4 rush linebacker. Yet, a quarter of them have the Broncos going with the Florida product. Ten percent, however, have Denver choosing Adam Carriker. Next was Joseph Staley with 7.5 percent of the vote.

  22. Dallas Cowboys 2007 Draft Pick Dallas Cowboys: Aaron Ross, CB, Texas (12.5%)
Robert Meachem actually won the vote here, but he's going to Tennessee at No. 19. Aaron Ross and Dwayne Jarrett tied for second place. Jarrett wins the majority vote later on, so I gave this spot to Aaron Ross. It's whom I have Dallas taking anyway.

  23. Kansas City Chiefs 2007 Draft Pick Kansas City Chiefs: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU (32.5%)
The closest player to Dwayne Bowe was Robert Meachem at 15 percent. Joe Staley, my choice for the Chiefs, was right behind Meachem (12.5 percent).

  24. New England Patriots: Paul Posluszny, OLB, Penn State (17.5%)
I told you Paul Posluszny won the majority vote later on. New England takes a smart linebacker. That can't happen, can it? Posluszny edged out Michael Griffin (15%).

  25. New York Jets 2007 Draft Pick New York Jets: Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas (22.5%)
I was surprised to see Chris Houston beat out guys like Greg Olsen (17.5%), Aaron Ross (17.5%) and my pick, Jarvis Moss (15%).

  26. Philadelphia Eagles 2007 Draft Pick Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Griffin, SS, Texas (27.5%)
I don't think he's going to be here, but if Michael Griffin makes it past New England, I think the Eagles definitely take him. Brandon Meriweather, the guy I have going No. 26, was second at 12.5 percent. Jarvis Moss and Lawrence Timmons hit at 10 percent.

  27. New Orleans Saints 2007 Draft Pick New Orleans Saints: Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee (20%)
Justin Harrell actually tied with Chris Houston, whom the majority of mocks have going two selections earlier. Both guys edged out Aaron Ross (17.5%).

  28. New England Patriots 2007 Draft Pick New England Patriots: David Harris, ILB, Michigan (12.5%)
There was a three-way tie for the majority vote-leader at No. 28. David Harris tied with Michael Griffin and Jon Beason. Griffin was already picked. I have to take Harris over Beason, simply because of the leak the Patriots had regarding their interest in the Michigan linebacker. Meanwhile, Chris Houston, Brandon Meriweather and Joseph Staley were close by at 10 percent.

  29. Baltimore Ravens 2007 Draft Pick Baltimore Ravens: Ryan Kalil, C, USC (20%)
Ryan Kalil is the man for Baltimore, but a few guys nearly beat him out. Justin Blalock (17.5%) and Joseph Staley (15%) almost won the consensus.

  30. San Diego Chargers 2007 Draft Pick San Diego Chargers: Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC (27.5%)
To my surprise, Dwayne Jarrett beat out Dwayne Bowe and Robert Meachem outright. Bowe was nearby at 22.5 percent. No one else was close, including Meachem (10%).

  31. Chicago Bears 2007 Draft Pick Chicago Bears: Ben Grubbs, G, Auburn (20%)
It was a battle between Ben Grubbs and Jon Beason, but the former beat out the latter, who was chosen to go here in 17.5 percent of the mocks. Justin Blalock was a distant third at 10 percent.

  32. Indianapolis Colts 2007 Draft Pick Indianapolis Colts: Jon Beason (15%)
Lawrence Timmons and Justin Harrell each were picked more than any other player at this spot (17.5%). However, both were chosen earlier. Jon Beason was next.

One flaw with this Super Mock was that neither Ted Ginn nor Jamaal Anderson was chosen. Both players were second and third at multiple selections, but were never the consensus player. I have a feeling the same thing would have happened to Brandon Meriweather if I were to continue into the second round.
