2015 NFL Combine: Weigh-In Recap – Linebackers
By Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell

  • Florida outside linebacker Dante Fowler is in the running to be the first edge defender selected. At 6-foot-3, 261 pounds, Fowler has versatile size. He could add some weight to play defensive end in a 4-3, or stay where he is to remain a 3-4 outside linebacker. It wouldn’t be surprising if Fowler ends up being a star of the Combine.

  • Missouri outside linebacker Shane Ray (6-3, 245) checked in as expected. He is going to need to improve his strength for the NFL, but at least Ray wasn’t smaller than what he was billed to be.

  • Nebraska outside linebacker Randy Gregory checked in at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds. Gregory is fast off the edge, but he is going to need to fill out his frame more for the NFL.

  • Clemson outside linebacker Vic Beasley has been in the weight room a lot since the end of the season. Beasley played in the 230s at Clemson, but weighed in at 6-foot-3, 246 pounds. If Beasley can maintain his speed and explosion at the heavier weight, it will really help his draft stock.

  • UCLA outside linebacker Eric Kendricks (6-0, 232) had a quality weigh-in. Topping 230 pounds was key for Kendricks, and not being in the 220s helps him to be a firstround pick.

  • TCU inside linebacker Paul Dawson was a couple inches shorter than his listed numbers. At 6- foot, 235 pounds, Dawson would be a little undersized for a middle linebacker in the NFL, and he may have to move outside linebacker.

  • Virginia outside linebacker Eli Harold (6-3, 247) was lighter than expected. Perhaps he dropped some weight in order to be able to run faster in the 40. Harold should play in the 250-260-pound range.

  • Kentucky’s Bud Dupree (6-4, 269) played defensive end and outside linebacker for the Wildcats. At 6-foot-4, 269 pounds, Dupree is on the verge of being more of a 4-3 base defensive end. Dupree is a size/speed specimen who should impress at the Combine.

  • Washington outside linebacker Shaq Thompson (6-0, 228) is about as expected, but this indicates that he’ll have to be an outside linebacker and isn’t a candidate to play on the inside. He’s too big for safety, but if he trimmed some weight, some teams might consider that route for him. Thompson is a great athlete, so he should impress on the field.

  • Mississippi State inside linebacker Bernardrick McKinney was a little smaller than listed, but the 6-foot-4, 246-pounder has excellent length and size to be a middle linebacker in any scheme in the NFL. McKinney could also be a Combine star.
