2011 NFL Draft Combine Stock Report

Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Draft Stock Up
Prince Amukamara shouldn't need a stock up, but apparently there was some speculation that he would have to play free safety in the NFL. I'm not even sure where that came from, but Amukamara dispelled that notion with a 4.37 40 and 38-inch vertical. He also looked great in the drills.

Ahmad Black, SS, Florida Draft Stock Down
We knew Ahmad Black was slow, but his 40 (4.74) could have been timed with a sun dial. When Black was running in one of his drills, the camera panned to Jack Del Rio in the stands, who shook his head in disapproval and wrote something on his notepad.

Curtis Brown, CB, Texas Draft Stock Up
Curtis Brown didn't run a great 40 (4.51), but he made several spectacular catches in the drills. He also notched a 39.5-inch vertical.

Kendric Burney, CB, North Carolina Draft Stock Down
Teams understandably don't like small and slow corners. The 5-9, 186-pound Kendric Burney ran a 4.72 on Tuesday. He also didn't look very good in the drills. It's a shame for Burney, who was outstanding at the Senior Bowl.

Brandon Burton, CB, Utah Draft Stock Down
Brandon Burton's measurables checked out (4.50 40), but he struggled in the drills.

Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia Draft Stock Up
Ras-I Dowling, at 6-1, 198, ran a 4.40 40 despite pulling up lame with a hamstring injury at the 35-yard mark. Dowling sat out the rest of the afternoon.

Brandon Harris, CB, Miami Draft Stock Up
Brandon Harris ran a decent 40 (4.43), but he really shined in the drills. In fact, Deion Sanders said Harris was the best cornerback he saw on the field. "He's been ballin'," Sanders said.

Julio Jones, WR, Alabama Draft Stock Up
Julio Jones had a great workout Sunday. Last night, it was revealed that Jones ran and jumped with a fractured foot. This type of toughness is yet another thing to like about Jones. He'll probably be slated No. 10 to the Redskins in tomorrow's 2011 NFL Mock Draft update.

Shiloh Keo, S, Idaho Draft Stock Up
Shiloh Keo ran a poor 40 (4.72), but really made a name for himself at the Combine. He thrived in all of the drills, even diving for a ball that was out of reach. Mike Mayock and Deion Sanders praised Keo's hustle and quick feet.

Joseph Lefeged, S, Rutgers Draft Stock Up
Joseph Lefeged had one of the fastest 40s on Tuesday despite the fact that he's a safety. At 210 pounds, Lefeged ran a 4.42. He also notched a 36.5-inch vertical.

Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU Draft Stock Up
Patrick Peterson confirmed that he's the best cornerback prospect since Charles Woodson on Tuesday. Despite measuring in at 6-0, 219, he ran a 4.32 40 and notched a 38-inch vertical. Like Woodson, Peterson has the size and speed to play multiple positions on defense. He won't be the No. 1 pick, but he can go as high as No. 3 to Buffalo. I don't see him falling past Cincinnati.

Darryl Skrine, CB, UT-Chattanooga Draft Stock Up
Darryl Skrine had the fastest 40 at the Combine (unofficially), running a 4.29 40. He also had a 37-inch vertical. Later in the drills, Skrine proved that he's not just a track guy. Deion Sanders remarked that Skrine looked raw at all; on the contrary, Skrine performed remarkably well.

Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado Draft Stock Down
Jimmy Smith is a top-15 talent. On Tuesday, he ran a 4.38 at 6-2, 211. He also had a 36-inch vertical. Unfortunately, Smith has major character concerns. He tested positive for drugs at Colorado and was also arrested twice. During the team interviews, Smith reportedly admitted to only one arrest, which draws yet another red flag.

Aaron Williams, CB/FS, Texas Draft Stock Down
Aaron Williams ran a decent 4.52 40 at 6-0, 204. During the drills, however, Mike Mayock and Deion Sanders remarked that Williams was "all over the place." Mayock said he believes that Williams may have to move to free safety in the NFL.

Let's not forget this is still the combine. A great or sub-par 40 time should not lift up or bring down anyone an entire round. If the kid can play, he can play. If he's got problems, money won't fix them, it'll usually exarcerbate such issues.

Jerry Rice & Michael Irvin ran 4.6 to 4.7 40 times and I don't remember hearing any analyst commenting on their 40 times during any game they played. I think the combine stats are over-analyzed.

Ryan Mallett has a cannon arm and a brash attitude. Somewhere in his lair, Undead Al is beaming, "Ryan Mallett... is a... great playah. He's got the... talent... and the... Raidah spirit."

Young, though, looked great with his route running and Torrey Smith was awful.

Today's combine recap,

As Hankerson's about to catch the ball, (camera pan) Analysts: Oh look Newton tying his shoes, (guh splooge). WRs are now running their 40s. (camera pan) Ananlysts: Oh look Newton is listening to music (guh splooge.

I wish I see the combine in full without hearing about the hard-ons these guys have

one more thing, AZHusker, ingram had the best 10 yard split of any RB, which is way more important for backs than the actual forty, since you see way more 10 yard runs than 40 yard runs in the NFL. but Helu's stock is definitely rising, i'll give you that

and wizdumb, Vereen looked awful in every drill except the bench press. And Dion Lewis is moving up if anything. He was incredible in the weave drill and the cut drill where a coach holds a bag and acts as a tackler, then the back must cut in the right direction. He was by far the most impressive in both those drills, which are far more important than 40 times and bench presses

My bad walt, i didnt realize. It's just crazy what a huge discrepancy there is in these times and the ones the NFL puts out. I mean Titus Young's time was 4.59 according to, which is a huge difference from 4.43. and Baldwin was a 4.5 not a 4.45 on their site. I think Hankerson is a first round lock after running in the 4.4's today

Roy Helu weighed more than Ingram and ran a 4.43 40 and you rave about Ingram??? Helu's stock went way up while Ingram reportedly lost weight and ran a high 4.5

I'm hoping Shane Veeren jumps up draft boards and Dion Lewis, or Quizz Rodgers fall to the Bucs in the middle rounds. Their combine numbers are not good, but they looked like the best runners by far to me.
