2008 NFL Draft Scouting Combine Prospects:
QB | RB | WR | TE | OT | G | C | DE | DT | OLB | ILB | CB | S

Zack Bowman, Nebraska
Height: 6-0. Weight: 197.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Combine 40 Time: 4.38.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical .
Projected Round: 3.

Zack Bowman is a huge risk, coming off multiple knee injuries. However, he looked good at the combine, running a 4.38. The Chargers took a shot with Antonio Cromartie and it paid off. I bet someone takes a flier on Bowman prior to the middle of the draft.

Tyvon Branch, Connecticut
Height: 5-11. Weight: 204.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
Combine 40 Time: 4.31.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical .
Projected Round: 4.

Tyvon Branch opened some eyes with his 4.31. There’s a chance he could sneak ahead of some of the guys who ran slowly like Chevis Jackson.

Antoine Cason, Arizona
Height: 6-0. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
Combine 40 Time: 4.49.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical 35.5.
Projected Round: Top 20 Pick.

Antoine Cason, a corner who thrives in the spotlight, ran a decent 40 but shocked the crowd with a vertical of 35.5 and a broad jump of 10’8″. Cason may go in the top 20.

Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech
Height: 5-9. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.42.
Combine 40 Time: 4.55.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical 30.
Projected Round: Top 25 Pick.

No idea why some draft experts had Brandon Flowers atop their cornerback charts. In my opinion, he’s a late-first, early-second prospect all the way, although I believe he could become a decent NFL player despite his awful 40.

Wilrey Fontenot, Arizona
Height: 5-8. Weight: 171.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
Combine 40 Time: 4.39.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical 34.
Projected Round: 6-7.

Wilrey Fontenot is a small corner who needed to help himself at the combine. He did just that with a 4.39 40 and a 10-8 broad jump.

Charles Godfrey, Iowa
Height: 5-11. Weight: 207.
Projected 40 Time: 4.35.
Combine 40 Time: 4.47.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical .
Projected Round: 3.

I said Charles Godfrey could skyrocket up the draft boards with a solid combine. He performed well, but nothing that made anyone’s eyes explode.

Jack Ikegwuonu, Wisconsin
Height: 5-10. Weight: 194.
Projected 40 Time: 4.38.
Combine 40 Time: Did not run.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: 5-FA.

Didn’t work out at the combine.

Chevis Jackson, LSU
Height: 5-10. Weight: 194.
Projected 40 Time: 4.42.
Combine 40 Time: 4.58.
Benchx225: 13. Vertical 36.
Projected Round: 4.

In a very competitive cornerback class, Chevis Jackson’s 40 could really hurt his stock.

Mike Jenkins, South Florida
Height: 5-10. Weight: 197.
Projected 40 Time: 4.43.
Combine 40 Time: 4.38.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical 34.
Projected Round: Top 15 Pick.

There was nothing wrong with Mike Jenkins’ combine, but it didn’t have scouts and general managers drooling like they did over Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Justin King, Penn State
Height: 5-11. Weight: 192.
Projected 40 Time: 4.32.
Combine 40 Time: 4.31.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical 34.
Projected Round: 3.

Justin King ran an incredible 40, but that’s something everyone expected. King was torched by James Hardy and other receivers last season. Still an intriguing prospect, however.

Patrick Lee, Auburn
Height: 6-0. Weight: 200.
Projected 40 Time: 4.34.
Combine 40 Time: 4.40.
Benchx225: 15. Vertical 31.
Projected Round: 3.

Dwight Lowery, San Jose State
Height: 5-11. Weight: 201.
Projected 40 Time: 4.38.
Combine 40 Time: 4.62.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical 33.5.
Projected Round: 3.

A corner who really disappointed at the combine was Dwight Lowery. I thought he would go a high 4.3 or low 4.4, but he managed a 4.62. That takes him out of the first four rounds.

Leodis McKelvin, Troy State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 190.
Projected 40 Time: 4.38.
Combine 40 Time: 4.38.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical 33.5.
Projected Round: Top 10 Pick.

Leodis McKelvin has cemented himself as the top corner in this draft, posting solid numbers in Indianapolis.

Justin McKinney, Kansas State
Height: 5-9. Weight: 188.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Combine 40 Time: 4.65.
Benchx225: 11. Vertical 29.5.
Projected Round: FA.

Antwaun Molden, Eastern Kentuky
Height: 6-0. Weight: 198.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.44.
Benchx225: 23. Vertical 37.5.
Projected Round: 5-6.

Solid numbers, including a broad jump of 10’9″.

Tracy Porter, Indiana
Height: 5-10. Weight: 188.
Projected 40 Time: 4.33.
Combine 40 Time: 4.37.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical .
Projected Round: 1-2.

Matterral Richardson, Arkansas
Height: 5-11. Weight: 194.
Projected 40 Time: 4.53.
Combine 40 Time: 4.70.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical .
Projected Round: FA.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 184.
Projected 40 Time: 4.37.
Combine 40 Time: 4.28.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical 38.5.
Projected Round: Top 15 Pick.

Holy crap. Forget being a lock first-round pick. I’d be shocked if Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie makes it past the Saints at No. 10. Following up on an incredible Senior Bowl, DRC ran a 4.28, jumped a 38.5-inch vertical and leaped a broad of 10’11”. He also looked extremely fluid in the drills, earning the praise of Deion Sanders.

Orlando Scandrick, Boise State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 192.
Projected 40 Time: 4.43.
Combine 40 Time: 4.32.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: 5.

Mixed reviews. Orlando Scandrick had solid numbers but he looked mediocre during the drills.

Glenn Sharpe, Miami
Height: 6-0. Weight: 185.
Projected 40 Time: 4.38.
Combine 40 Time: Did not run.
Benchx225: 15. Vertical 37.
Projected Round: 6-7.

Glenn Sharpe didn’t run the 40.

Reggie Smith, Oklahoma
Height: 6-0. Weight: 199.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Combine 40 Time: .
Benchx225: 13. Vertical .
Projected Round: Top 20 Pick.

Reggie Smith didn’t work out at the combine.

Brandon Sumrall, Southern Miss
Height: 5-9. Weight: 195.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
Combine 40 Time: 4.62.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: FA.

Aqib Talib, Kansas
Height: 6-0. Weight: 202.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Combine 40 Time: 4.47.
Benchx225: 10. Vertical 38.
Projected Round: 1.

Aqib Talib ran better than expected (by most people), though he matched my predicted 40 time. He’s a first-round prospect despite looking awkward in some drills. Mike Mayock also exposed some of Talib’s flaws on tape.

Darnell Terrell, Missouri
Height: 6-1. Weight: 203.
Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
Combine 40 Time: 4.50.
Benchx225: 15. Vertical .
Projected Round: 4-5.

One of the tallest corners in this class, Darnell Terrell’s speed at his size is pretty solid.

Terrell Thomas, USC
Height: 6-0. Weight: 202.
Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
Combine 40 Time: 4.49.
Benchx225: 21. Vertical .
Projected Round: 1-2.

DeJuan Tribble, Boston College
Height: 5-8. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.42.
Combine 40 Time: 4.55.
Benchx225: 13. Vertical .
Projected Round: 2.

DeJuan Tribble’s combine left much to be desired; he wasn’t great in the drills, and his 4.55 40 was lackluster.

Justin Tryon, Arizona State
Height: 5-9. Weight: 176.
Projected 40 Time: 4.38.
Combine 40 Time: 4.49.
Benchx225: 21. Vertical .
Projected Round: 5.

Marcus Walker, Oklahoma
Height: 5-10. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Combine 40 Time: 4.55.
Benchx225: . Vertical 35.5.
Projected Round: 4-5.

Terrence Wheatley, Colorado
Height: 5-9. Weight: 187.
Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
Combine 40 Time: 4.37.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical 36.5.
Projected Round: 2-3.

Terrence Wheatley looked really solid at the combine. Other than his 4.37 40 and 36.5-inch vertical, Wheatley was awesome in some of the drills.

Jonathan Wilhite, Auburn
Height: 5-9. Weight: 187.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Combine 40 Time: 4.38.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical .
Projected Round: 4-5.

Jonathan Wilhite, who played in the shadow of Patrick Lee, opened some eyes with a 4.38 40 at the combine.

Jack Williams, Kent State
Height: 5-9. Weight: 186.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
Combine 40 Time: 4.55.
Benchx225: . Vertical 35.5.
Projected Round: 4-5.

Trae Williams, South Florida
Height: 5-9. Weight: 193.
Projected 40 Time: 4.39.
Combine 40 Time: 4.52.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: 3.

Jonathan Zenon, LSU
Height: 5-11. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: 4.
