By the way, the fifth-annual Walter/Joker Annual Challenge is on, as I'll be competing with the Joker's College Picks. We each pick five games and see who does the best each week.

Stanford vs. Wisconsin
Line: Stanford by 6.5.

Jan. 1, 5:00 p.m.

As a disclaimer, don't go nuts with my college football picks. I'm much better at picking NFL games (at least I used to be); I'm just doing these upon request. Follow @walterfootball for updates.

No one expected Stanford to be in the Rose Bowl exhibition game prior to the season. I doubt the Cardinal players expected it. But here they are, ready to take on the Big Ten champs. They'll be up for Wisconsin, a team that just isn't very good. Trust me, I've bet against the Badgers a couple of times this year.

College Football Pick: Stanford -6.5 (1 Unit)

Northern Illinois at Florida State
Line: Florida State by 13.5.

Jan. 1, 8:30 p.m.

Remember when Florida State was undefeated and everyone was talking about the team possibly battling Alabama in the national championship? Well, the Semionles have certainly fallen. Sure. they've been invited to a meaningless BCS bowl (aren't they really just the same as the other ones?) but they have to take on Northern Illinois. Why would they care about stupid Northern Illinois? Meanwhile, the Northern Illinois players have spent the past month listening to why they don't belong in a stupid BCS bowl. They'll be pumped to prove everyone wrong.

College Football Pick: Northern Illinois +13.5 (2 Units)

Oregon vs. Kansas State
Line: Oregon by 8.5.

Jan. 3, 8:30 p.m.

What was that Kansas State loss to Baylor? Seriously, how was an undefeated team embarrassed like that against a mediocre opponent so late in the year? The Ducks are at least legit. They should be able to prevail over Bill Snyder, who has a 4-9 spread record in bowl games.

College Football Pick: Oregon -8.5 (1 Unit)

Kent State vs. Arkansas State
Line: Arkansas State by 3.5.

Jan. 6, 9:00 p.m.

The fourth BCS bowl I'd like to discuss is Kent State versus Arkansas State. This one must be super important because it's being played just one day prior to the national championship.

This may surprise you, but this is Kent State's first bowl appearance since 1972. I was certainly shocked because I assumed the Flashes made it to one when Julian Edelman quarterbacked the team. They'll be pumped to play Arkansas State.

College Football Pick: Kent State +3.5 (2 Units)

Alabama vs. Notre Dame
Line: Alabama by 9.5.

Jan. 7, 8:30 p.m.

Always bet on the SEC team in the BCS championship*. That's what I've learned over the years. Dating back to 2006, the SEC is a perfect 5-0 versus non-SEC competition in the BCS championship.

* - Note that this is not technically the national championship. This is the BCS Championship. The winner wins the BCS, but if the voters should choose to vote, say, Texas A&M No. 1 after this contest, the Aggies would technically split the title with Alabama. Just sayin'.

Alabama has too much defensive power for Notre Dame's offense to handle. In fact, the Tide's speed is just going to be overwhelming. The Irish should be competitive for a while, but Alabama will eventually pull away and win by 14-20 points.

College Football Pick: Alabama -9.5 (1 Unit)

I am liking the OVER most. I also wanted to note that UTEP QB Lamaison has a shoulder injury but is expected to play. UTEP also has several other players (dont know how influencial they are) nursing injuries....

Obviously, that is an interesting trend supporting UTEP. However, reading it I dont know if it has strong meaning. HOUSTON team is a scoring machine and I dont know if UTEP can hang with them....I could see this game being a blowout. Maybe I should just stick w/ my OVER pick for this game.

What are you thinking JB29???

Sucker bet??

It appears to me that USF is a good bet. My local book had them at -2.5 and now it has been moved to -3. Typical movement when the public is on one side BUT my book has pitt at -115 +3.

What's the trick here.

what a night last night? rays pulled out a 4 team parlay for me. normally when teams comeback it works against me. Im liking walts pick on clemson +7 as i agree they are very good and no one really knows it but at the same time they are playing away for the 1st time all year. We will definitely find out how good they are cause va tech is always a diciplined, "good" team with an above average defense. Also like the cornhuskers +9.. i thought this spread woulda been 7ish but wisconsin is very good. Everyones talkin about the key to the game being can taylor martinez throw when wisconsin stacks the box.. i think the key will be more nebraskas defense. There db's are always legit and this is by far the best defense wisconsins played yet. If they cant slow down Russel Wilson, i dunno if there are many defenses that can/will.. Nebraskas getting a few starters back, one an all-conference caliber CB.. Ill post all my college picks tomorrow night or saturday morning... tonights games.. USF -3, Houston -16. straight up and parlayed just to give me somethin to watch
